Whoa....I didn't see that one coming...Beatles have a LARGE fan base..

Snood was looking at - but wasn;t sure if the cd holders were hard plastic or soft plastic sheets.........the more looked at, seemed soft and wasn't liking that - but was still thinking about - oh well, more money for surround stuff

Soft plastic sheets. That Vision box came out 3 or 4 years ago....

Well today Eric Bloom of Blue Oyster Cult is 70...HAPPY BIRTHDAY....(Don't Fear) The Reaper is one of those classic Rock songs which I love....

Snoood met him waaaaaaaay back...........backstage on their Fire Of Unknown Origin Tour...........

Nice enough, but wow was he very very small. Snood was just a shallow kid back then, but a 6'2" shallow kid and adored BOC......thought they were giants.........

When he walked up to me admiring the motorcycle he rides out on "Born to be Wild", Snood thought he was some roadie or something then went whoaaaaaaaaa that's Eric Bloom and he very short - then went in me head OMG. Shattered my young Rock N Roll fantasy. Weird what watching someone from afar and from below stage height and setting them up on a pedestal will do.........

Very nice guy it seemed - He approached me to converse - but back then Snood was a much more shallow nanner

Happy Birthday Mr. Bloom

Still some great tunes................Spectres is still a great album, cept Godzilla 8P

Snood should notice the size of a guitar compared to the size of the person, which is always the giveaway....
I used to like BOC a lot until they played my hometown back in the early 80's and my brother's band was the opening act-who kicked some SERIOUS ASS....after BOC saw them, they axed their slot and did not allow them to play....

I got an email from acoustic sounds and it appears there is ether a typo or some big news on the Pet Sounds SACD coming next year...it says 5.1 on the page but when you click on Pet Sounds SACD it doesn't give any information on multi channel..just stereo or mono.....HERE

As I have been pondering my potential Beach Boy purchases I decided to pop in my CD version of "The Very Best Of The Beach Boys"..30 freaking songs on this CD...geeze...if you play it at low volume it doesn't sound bad...they really had that thing going on back in the day...I mean the topics of these songs...girls...cars..surf...I mean one minute they are talking about "good vibrations" and the next it's "California Girls"...then "Little Deuce Coupe"...they want to Help Rhonda...or just talk about Barb..Barb..Barbara Ann...they were either on a "Surfin' Safari" or "In My Room"...seems like they were all over the place..including the water in the "Sloop John B"..an inspiration they culled from the Kingston Trio's "The John B Sails"...basically all these guys wanted to do was have fun under the sunny skies of California and they were proud of their region their women and of course their school(Be True To Your School)...

So I'm not sure what to do at this point...do I wait for a "possible" 5.1 version of Pet Sounds in THIS GROUP...or do I go with THESE now... any thoughts

hehehe - you know what I say.....5.1 all the way my man!

2 problems with that...the first is I'm not sure if it's really going to be in multi channel like it says on acoustic sounds...you notice if you read the description it talks about the stereo mix and the mono mix and NOTHING about the "supposed" 5.1 mix....the other problem is that IF it indeed contains a 5.1 mix it could be the one they used on the DVD-A and it evoked some strong and varied opinions about the end result..check this out

The SHM SACD version is based on a 2014 DSD Mastering...so there is something new to this re-issue...some of the Beach Boy songs are like earlier Beatles songs and actually sound better in Mono...I'll probably go the SHM route as it is here NOW...the other could be 6 months down the road...

I have the DVD-A of Pet Sounds...had it for quite some time. I need to get it out and listen again...honestly can't recall how it sounds. Something tells me I wasn't too impressed...or I'd be listening to it more often.

Clint, I'm holding out for the Analogue Production versions. They are mastered by one of the best in the biz (Kevin Gray) and will contain both stereo and mono mixes. I'm optimistic that it will be worth the wait.

What bothers me about the description on the acoustic sounds site is the total omission of any information about the multi channel mix..not a word..and many don't like the work of Mark Linett and he's doing the stereo mix and is listed as in charge of "audio production"...then there is the ever present Brian Wilson who is basically overseeing the mono production...is that a good thing?...I like the Beach Boys but I must confess I'm not a die hard listener and don't know much about these production people...only what I hear on the net...I wish a die hard fan would step up and give us some of their input..

Their product description for "Pet Sounds" states 5.1 Multichannel + Mono & Stereo Mixes so most likely the same content as the old DVD-A with new mastering. Regarding stereo, Linnett created new mixes only where none previously existed. Here's some more info from Acoustic Sounds:

Still, there’s no disputing that the close harmonies and one-of-a-kind rhythms of hits like “Surfer Girl,” “In My Room,” “Little Deuce Coupe” and more lend themseleves naturally to stereo. So we’ve got your 2-channel needs covered with prime stereo mix versions as well. The stereo editions of Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down Vol. 2, All Summer Long, Beach Boys Christmas Album and Beach Boys Concert were all mixed in stereo by their own preferred engineer, Chuck Britz, ostensibly under the group's supervision. "Brian may or may not have been present for those mixing sessions — evidence suggests that he trusted Chuck's skills enough to let him prepare those mixes on his own - but the group held onto their multitrack tapes and delivered stereo masters to Capitol, rather than allowing Capitol to prepare their own stereo versions. Later, when Brian was only delivering mono masters, Capitol would prepare the Duophonic pseudo stereo editions for the stereo market," says Alan Boyd, producer and Beach Boys' archivist. The Beach Boys' practice of double-tracking their vocals really lends itself to stereo mixes. Split left and right, as they are on a lot of those early stereo versions, those doubled vocal parts can really envelop the listener, surrounding them with Wilsons, Loves and Jardines! All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.

Oh man....don't get me started on the turntable thing.....I've been admiring them for some time now. So sweet looking these days...

Really, no music lover's home should be without one...:D I have three at this time, but then I work around a wife and cat, so y'know, sometimes you have to isolate yourself, and she has some vinyl she likes, so...

If nothing else, find an original 1st press of anything and try it...it's like going back to the source you would have had back in the day, gives you an idea of whether or not future reissues/remasterings were in fact better, or not. I always revisit the source of beloved music even if it was improved upon later in the sonics department.

ED :)
