I set it up with the remote, not a big problem. That's with the newest ATV4K.
Got my box in yesterday, it's a brand new 5th gen box, not the very latest (only $99) and I did find set-up a major PITA. LOL It took me about the first 2 hours of playing with it and internet searches to figure out that plain black square at the top was actually a 5 way joystick type thing. Couldn't it been engraved or something with arrows or at least have that info on the enclosed booklet. And it's way too fricken sensitive. My very first thing "Apple" and I always heard how user friendly they are. LOL
After doing the set-up and getting subscribed to Apple Music, (first 3 months free, yippee), I eventually got things going and was listening to Atmos streaming music, now I'm happy. I was surprised to find many albums only have one or two songs Atmos and the rest stereo, hoping for more to come but anyway this is really kool.

Format: Dolby Vision

Thanks again FBF, I'm sure that saved me a bunch of time getting things running right. ;)
I'm finding the UI of the 4K music a bit confusing but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I'd like to try and filter out all the movies, interviews and other stuff and only see the albums available, they really try to suck you into buying other things, I wasn't used to all that clutter with Spotify, Amazon or Qobuz?
Still waiting to see what Spotify will bring to the plate, they've always had the best UI and catalog IMO.
Time for my piano practice, gotta run but be back later. ;)

I have the very latest ATV4K and it has a much better remote. Some albums that have only one or a few songs in Atmos, may be albums that are not released yet, like the upcoming Doobies and Alison Krauss/Robert Plant.

1. My understanding (and I believe it says this on the Apple support site) is that the Apple TV 4K does not yet support 24/192. I hope that it will in the future, would make things a lot better.
2. I am not aware of any way to do what you suggest, except, perhaps, through a 3rd party app. Too complicated for me to try.

I actually followed the Darko video and bought an Apple Lightning to USB camera converter cord ($25) and a USB cable to connect my iPhone to my Parasound P6 preamp/DAC, and I get 24/192 that way. I love it, sounds great, except that I can't view what is playing on the big screen.

1. Correct- fingers crossed for a fix.

2. The trick is to use playlists. Add to a playlist in Apple Music on iPhone or iOS, then bring up that playlist, and it updates automatically. And as mentioned before, you can use the remote app in control center to operate the ATV from your iphone.

I’ve been using a dragonfly forever with my iPhone and iPad. Any lightning to USB hub should work, but the USB Camera kit is solid. The Monoprice Monolith USB DAC is also low power enough to work fine. I recently started playing with a fiio BTR-5 because it has its own battery and you can use the lightning to USB adapter instead- also works like a charm.

I better clarify- you will not get lossless Atmos using these solutions, just lossless 24/96 stereo on the dragonfly and 24/192 on the fiio and monolith.

And if you have the first gen ATV4K, but hate the remote, you can upgrade remote only.

or…

It also works with Logitech Harmony. You have two options for setup. Set it up as Vendor: Apple and Device: Apple TV 4K or Vendor: Logitech and Device: BT Apple TV 5, which will allow you to launch a specific app from the top menu, and a few more controls, iirc.

I am obsessed with the new Apple Lossless Music now much more than I ever was with Tidal MQA.
I always like doing research and talking to people before I make a move, don't want to waste money.
This is about playing Apple Lossless Music from the iPhone or iPad, I am thinking from the iPhone.
This You Tube video explains very well. The setup for either of those two Apple products.
You Tube Video
John Darko in his video uses the AudioQuest Dragonfly DAC. Dragonfly DAC for Apple products. But it itself does not show what the sampling rate is.
Now this small DAC the FiiO BTR5 shows the sample rate, which I think is very cool for streaming Apple Music from your iPhone or iPad.
FiiO BTR5 DAC
Either set up you need wired headphones to plug into either DAC, wireless unavailable as of this writing.
What do you think?

Thanks, I looked at that, it's priced around $50 IIRC.
I'll just hold tight for a bit, I might get used to it, or jump ship to Spotify if they offer something I see as better in the future.
All in all this Atmos revolution on the streamers has been like a gigantic Christmas present for us multich fans that I never saw coming just a year or two back. I say my prayers that the interest will grow and expand. While the snake oil believers in high end audio spend thousands of $ on cables and other useless toys, maybe at some point they'll learn that multich music provides a REAL improvement over stereo in listening enjoyment, one that his wife can truly experience from the kitchen. LOL

Marpow,

This probably needs a whole other thread, outside of ATV Atmos streaming- so this will be my last post here on the subject. Having tested a few dacs, the Dragonfly Black sounds great, but is only 24/96. It uses color to tell you what bitrate is being used- after a while you figure it out. The way I describe the dragonfly is it takes a good pair of wired headphones and make them sound $100 better, lol.

The Monoprice Monolith is the cheapie, but it's very close in performance, for less cost. It can also do 24/192 and even dsd256 if you have files and the right app, but it's more precise and yet a little too clinical in its sound. I picked it up for $65 on sale and used it exclusively when I lived on airplanes every week, before the new normal. The goal was to have something decent that I wouldn't cry over if it got lost.

To me, the fiio BTR-5 is the last of the three bears- just right. It's more engaging than the monoprice or dragonfly black and pairs nicely with balanced and unbalanced headphones. Are there better dacs? Yes. more expensive? Sure. Is it impressive for what you get at the price? Hell yes!

The built in battery lasts for 9 hrs use without impacting the iPhone battery. Note: these little dacs typically consume iPhone or iPad battery, which is why the usb camera adapter that allows power pass through is usually mandatory- not needed with the fiio (unless it needs a charge)

At some point, I'll decide that I need a very high end non portable DAC, but for now I move the ones I have where needed- the dragonfly is in my car, the monolith is on my Mac, and the fiio is with my headphones.

I wonder why there are only 1000 songs in the playlist when I use the link.
In fact I have 1536 songs right now in this list. Perhaps more than 1000 can‘t be shared?
Someone was complaining about this on another site -For now, time to make a second list. And make sure to file feedback with Apple!

Great playlist.
Now please excuse this ATV newbie question, 2 days, how can I get your playlist into my ATV box?
If you have Apple Music on your PC,you just click the link and it will open in Apple Music. Then log off,and then in again, and you should be able to save it.
