Isn't Ringo holding the LP vinyl box? The blu ray would be in the cd box no?
The pack shot Ryan posted pretty much clears it up

Here is the pack shot:

So this confirms it alright. 5CDs and nothing else.
One of the biggest shames is that I would love to have this box set for the book alone, but it's simply too much money without the Blu-Ray.
Oh well...Maybe something better will come along later this year.

:(

In the minority amongst the general population but probably not amongst QQ members.
I cannot find any reason, beyond being a completist, to buy this without a surround mix.

Same here, but where I differ from bktouchstone is in being willing to pay $100 for just a blu-ray and refusing to ever stream surround music.

I think that position is probably in a minority among even QQ members, who are already a small subset of the general population.

If the deluxe edition retails for roughly the same amount as the previous sets, isn't that a clear indication that the label does not see a bluray disc with 5.1 adding any significant sales to the forecast? At least not enough to cover the extra production fees of the disc?

Thanks to Ryan for posting the bad news. Don't blame the poor man. His vote would have been for surround.

I, too thought "it's Universal's call!" upon reading Giles' comments.

I'll comment as a mega Beatles collector and completist for nearly 60 years. I will likely wait for a bargain price, too. Possible Hubby will surprise me with it.

A wonderful album and a colossal disappointment.

Yeah I was really just talking about the "no surround mix" making a difference over whether or not we will purchase it. I probably would pay $100 for a blu-ray with surround of that specific album. And I would never say never to streaming, it's just not really a substitute IMO for a real physical release.

Werent there some good outtakes from this album on Anthology 2? On the theory that they chose the best selections at that time how much more essential will these new ones be? The Beatles had the habit of finely crafting all of their songs and released the best versions on their albums.
Without a bluray I have to ask these questions.

It may not be the substitute we would all prefer, but it IS not only a substitute, but it's the only option we have.

Sure. People can choose to never listen to any of these surround mixes because they prefer the sound quality of physical releases or simply just prefer to own their own copies--and there will be those who choose to do that. But I suspect that the size of that group will only get smaller and smaller as time goes on.

There are people out there who still collect stuff, and it's a safe bet that there will always be. That's another reason why I don't understand how they could eliminate the blu-ray given that all of the previous big box Beatles albums had such a beast in the set. C'est la vie...

I agree it seems silly and pointless to do with when it has been the standard thus far AND the mix is completed.

It only makes sense from the standpoint of trying to turn more people onto the streaming services. Which, even if I don't like it, I understand the bizniz of it. But I will suggest that if they are going to go that route and use "Revolver" as the bait? They better start churning out a lot more mixes of albums that appeal to that demographic.

And up the audio quality while they are at it. That same demographic doesn't listen through air pods either.

It's a substitute in the same sense as a Camaro is substitute for a Corvette. They both are decent cars and they will both get you the same place, but come on, get real.
