Reading this thread isn't conducive to me being calm, relaxed & eagerly awaiting Oct 28 as I was originally. This is akin to too many UHD movies with Atmos-in-name-only that are dumbed down, weak LFE & bass, use fixed channels instead of Dolby's intended objects that can utilize all available speakers - IOW designed for bargain basement systems and soundbars.

I get pissed with the idiot studios doing this & the situation with Revolver is making me feel the same.

I mean, I have my misgivings about things produced that nobody needs. But in this case, they could've easily saved a CD by including the pointless "EP" at the beginning or end of the Sessions discs. Unlike the missing 5.1, that move is getting noticed by everyone.

He's right, of course. Compared to Vinyl, CD (or almost any other optical disc...) uses much, much less resources.

The wording is interesting though:
  • [Super Deluxe] Digital Audio Collection (stereo & hi res 96kHz/24-bit stereo + mono + Dolby Atmos)
  • [Standard] Digital (New album mix in stereo & hi res 96kHz/24-bit stereo + new Dolby Atmos mix)
That almost sounds like a possibility of a download?
I would put any money down on that being how it will be packaged on streaming services:

Not counting the version that I loaded up to take this pic there’s a handful of different variants of each Beatles Album that has Atmos. One is the “standard”, which is just the album. If you have Atmos turned on, it plays in Atmos, if you have it turned off it plays in High Res Lossless.

A “Super Deluxe” includes alt takes etc, which is where the mono versions and alt takes would go

I generally agree with the exception of the 2 points quoted above. If Giles had never teased a Revolver Atmos mix in his now infamous Twitter post and if the Atmos mix had not been played for the audience at an invitation-only listening event, then we'd be left to assume that what you said is accurate. However, there was time and money (apparently) spent to create an Atmos mix, so there is no reason why it could not have been included at very little per unit additional cost in the super deluxe box set.

Giles works for UMG. Has a title. So presumably he’s on salary. Most of the big work for the Atmos mix (separating the tracks, new EQs and processing) would have been done as a function of creating a new stereo mix.

The only real extra cost for the Atmos would mostly likely have been only whatever extra time he put in on it.

But yes. As it was already done it is ridiculous (IMO) to not include it.

Taxman. Just the Mr. Wilson/Mr. Heath bits are in the back. Ugh.
In 1966 when this was released the £ was worth roughly US$2.30, and the tax rate was 83% plus a further 15% on investments - so 98% and so the song Taxman was born! In 1967 (I was 10) our PM (Mr. Wilson) devalued the £ from roughly £1=$2.80 to £1=$2.44 (I remember my father getting annoyed!),

Fast forward to 2022 and our highest Tax Rate is 45% and today £1=$1.15

oh yes! they do appear to be the only unique element in the Rears, which are otherwise seemingly ambient renditions of the Fronts.

Front L&R comprise the bulk of the track, apart from those little "Mr. Wilson/Mr. Heath" bits which are not in the Fronts but in the Rears.

the Centre has isolated drum part and lead vocals at low level, plus guitar solo, which is also in the Fronts.

there's no LFE content as far as i can tell.

when playing the Atmos in 5.1 those "Mr. Wilson/Mr. Heath" Surround bits are in Stereo, so they image between the two Rear speakers, which doesn't really achieve a great deal if you're listening in 5.1 and your Rears are setup properly so that you get a focussed "Centre Back" image, it just makes the effect seem to come somewhere in the middle of the room, rather than emerging from the Rears.

oh well, its all very clean and pristine sounding, i couldn't make out any wooshing or gargling or other cancellation type effects from the upmixing or demixing processes that were done. its a little "polite" sounding, maybe?

Indeed, I wish they'd carried over the hard pans from the original stereo mix for those vocal parts. It also could've been cool to hear the tambourine or cowbell in the rears and/or heights. In 7.1.4, the side surrounds are a lower-level reflection of the fronts (minus drums and and vocals) and the heights are silent save for a bit of echo during the guitar solo.

What’s the likelihood that we get Atmos mixes of Paperback Writer and Rain too? I know that Paperback Writer is on 1, but perhaps a standalone release like the Strawberry Field Forever / Penny Lane single.

Now that we've ascertained through 19 pages of the REVOLVER Thread that we're NOT getting a Pure Audio BD~A ATMOS [nor 5.1 remix] and that the available ATMOS remix of REVOLVER is at best TEPID, perhaps it's time to revisit [via Wikipedia] the 'evolution' of the LOVE album which both Sir George assisted by his son Giles compiled for a Cirque du Soleil show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

BTW, in 2008, THE LOVE ALBUM at the 50th Grammy Award Show won for BEST COMPILATION ALBUM as well as BEST SURROUND ALBUM.

And to 'whet' your appetite' here's a little known fact regarding the evolution of the recording process:

Love contains elements from 130 individual commercially released and demo recordings of the Beatles and is a complex remix and polymix of multiple songs known as a mashup.

HOLD THE PHONE!...according to Bob's email, the Super Deluxe edition contains 5 CDs and a 100-page book in a slipcover AND a "Digital Audio Collection" comprising "stereo & hi res 96kHz/24-bit stereo + mono + Dolby Atmos."

So the Atmos mix is included in the SDE after all--just not on a Blu-Ray? What form will this "Digital Audio Collection" take? Clarity, please!

I’d say 50/50. The past record on related-singles has been uneven, at best.

We got new stereo and MC of SFF/Penny Lane. Neither for Hey Jude/Revolution. or Lady Madonna/Inner Light. Stereo only for Don’t Let Me Down.

Humprof, sounds like if you want the digital BD~A...although not specified] you'll have to spring for:

4LP+7-inch EP (stereo & mono audio) on half-speed mastered 180-gram vinyl with 100-page hardbound book in a 12.56” x 12.36” slipcase
