you know, I've tried to stay enthusiastic/optimistic/all the -istic's, even the Stylistics.. but with less than two weeks to go things are looking more and more bleak for this rollout/trial/balls-up/whatever it is :(

I'm still waiting on a response from either of the two Universal employees I contacted (links given in the Universal Brands News Page I linked to earlier in this thread) asking specifically about 5.1 on these new BDA's.. while it would be great to know categorically if these are all just 2.0, I'd take any reply (even a formulaic response or an "I don't know, not my department" kind of thing, which is what Dixie4 Rob has got so far from his enquiries) as decency/common courtesy over just plain being ignored by both of them, it's disappointing and it's rude.

I was basing my stereo only conclusion on the CD France site which under details gives all the formats as 2.0. I wish this was wrong.

FNAC gives info of PCM, DTS HD MA & Dolby True HD all 2.0, together with FLAC & mp3 download for every one of the BDA's listed for pre-order.

to add to the frustration of the complete lack of concrete information, FNAC have put up lovely piccies of the front covers of all these titles but not one rear insert, which might well have more info on what is actually on each disc.

I think we can safely assume this first lot (possibly only lot at this rate) will all be stereo.. still I'd have pre-ordered at least half a dozen by now if I could have bought them from a Euro-based vendor.. I refuse to buy brand new Euro made discs from a seller in the far-east (*)..

..its insane when you think about it! imagine you're in the USA and this was a U.S. campaign and the only way you could buy the stuff was as imports (that had made their way from the U.S. to Asia.. and back to the U.S.A again!) with you paying high international shipping costs and import taxes to buy U.S. product in the U.S.!! Its totally bloody NUTS.

(* unless its some OOP thing going cheap of course).

Belive it or not! True fact! If I was to mail a letter to my cuz in the same city, it goes 55 miles away to be sorted, then back to where it started for delivery. Also, we have a factory that makes pizza dough. IF you want it, you must buy it from Chicago distributer. It's right there, and local stores sell it, and use it. Makes perfect sense.

I still have faith in cdjapan's e mail, stating they were told there would be future 5.1 surround sound releases.

Interesting that Amazon.fr classes the Supertramp Blu-ray as a DVD Audio disc. Let the confusion begin...

Looks like vaporware to me. No release date.

I cancelled my pre-order some time ago.

Can't we just order from FNAC?

I've ordered from them before to be shipped to the UK.

I couldn't get it to work (something about location by the looks of it they use GPS to determine where you are and then won't ship).. although I have been checking up on the progress (or lack of) on FNAC from my phone while out and about so it may be the mobile site is more limited than the full PC site, I don't know!?

As you know Adam, I have purchased quite a lot from cdjapan. These BD-A's do not seem overly expensive, but what annoys me the most is getting stung for customs / taxes charges. ( which has happened to me quite a few times now....it's putting me off ordering from them. ) I also don't want to try & navigate around a French site ! My French vocab is "un pue ".
At this point, i'm not sure how committed Universal are to these discs ? Real commitment, would have been to ( pardon the pun ! ) release them Universally !!

YEAY! at last! that was an ordeal.. successfully ordered SITKOL, Breakfast in America & Bob Marley Legend from Fnac's PC site (the mobile version just would not play ball..!).. €19 apiece but €12 for shipping is less than ideal.. mais c'est la bleedin' vie..!! :p

haha! Universally speaking that'd be lovely!

i've given up buying from Japan, I always get whammed by customs charges and the postage is already steep!

you don't need any French really, it's all just standard form-filling fare.. lots of annoying little boxes of info to tick and fill in. the worst part was having to slog through failed attempts to get it working from my phone (and then a whole fiasco where the mobile site didn't like my hotmail address, then it didn't like my UK mobile number.. and then it didn't like where I live as it wouldn't take my order seemingly based on my location!).. the desktop site though was no problem, I breezed through first time, "sans hoquets"...! :D

ah-ha.. good sleuthing! I wondered when/if Amazon would get on board and now their French and German divisions are both getting in on the act hopefully they will start to list more pre-orders.. and then this trial thing can gather momentum, take off and then we might just get some good surround stuff..!! some hope is better than no hope, though at this point it's still just a tiny wee glimmer.

one thing I couldn't find on Fnac today when ordering was the Cat Stevens Tillerman BDA.. I was going to order that too, so I guess I'll just have to wait til another Euro seller lists it..

Seems other Euro websites are starting to list these BDA's. When searching with these ean codes, you fins alot of Stevie and Cat listings,
0600753406403
0600753429990

And of course the listings are confusing, as from the first look it seems the listings are for Blu Spec cds. Further in the description it does say Blu Ray Audio.

What's the betting these appear on Amazon UK, after I ordered on Amazon.fr ! ?
