The Nick Drake has been recently confirmed as 2.0 stereo only.

Confirmed by whom? The post above which is the only site I can find where it says 2.0 and not 5.1? Acoustic Sounds, Elusive Disc and Musicdirect all say it's 5.1. The problem is Universal's own site doesn't have any info on what's included other than tracklists.

If the Nick Drake release is not 5.1, I will be returning it ASAP along with the few other non-surround titles that I pre-ordered.

Amazon sent me an email saying the two Nirvana discs have shipped. Sea Change wasn't available to ship yet which isn't a big deal since I already have it on "DVD-audio". Thursday is the estimated arrival date.

My copy of Sea Change has already shipped a few days ago. (it IS 5.1)
Still waiting on:

Exile
Marvin Gaye
Lionel

Just got Bob Marley's Kaya yesterday but haven't listened to it yet.
Supertramp's Crime seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.

curious as to how that Marley/Kaya sounds when you get a min to listen to it?

thanks for the reminder, I need to get onto Amazon re: my refund on the Crime of the Century no-show (y)

YEAY! glad you like the Lionel Richie! :)

if all these Blu-ray's were as good as the Stevie Wonder and Lionel Richie discs we'd be on to a serious winner with this HFPA thing, even if they are "only stereo" they both sound absolutely terrific.

I haven't got Exile, to be honest I've held off on getting any more for the time being (other than the Beck, Nick Drake & Quincy Jones I have had pre-ordered for some time) after I found the Ella & Louis and Nina Simone discs disappointing.

someone has to be the guinea pig and try these discs out of course but I feel I've done my bit at the outset and I'm going to sit tight now and wait and see how any future releases sound before I shell out for them.

to put it into context, there are just 4 of these HFPA's that are essential (to me) out of 15 so far, the rest I could do without.. so that's not far off a couple of hundred quid down the drain on discs I'm not fussed about and probably won't play again anytime soon! those 4 (Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Supertramp, Serge Gainsbourg/Melody Nelson 5.1) are so good though, it's been worth the hassle/expense finding out!

I'll post about them either tomorrow night or Friday. I can't wait to try them out. UPS is slated to deliver in the afternoon. I may whip out the Sennheiser headphones and listen that way (kids being home around 3 make it hard to run Nirvana through my B&W speakers. That will happen Friday morning.

I ordered it weeks ago from Universal's UK store, and so far nada. I logged on there today to see how I could complain about this, and I see it is listed as "backordered, due for release on 11/11/13)", so it should be out finally next Monday.

Its on the shelf in my local store!!! Maybe I should buy it... oh yeah thats right - its only "Nearmono"....

Just ran through Nevermind. I A/B'ed it against the CD I have. It is night and day. Same volume played for both (-20db on my Onkyo) and the clarity and depth of the bass lines, drum beats and Kurt's scratchy vocals is so much better on the blu-ray. I didn't have to crank it like I do with SACDs. I like it a lot. I also have the HDTracks version which I plan to burn to a DVD-Audio and see how it compares. I'm happy. The visual is sparse. Just the tracklist and audio options (DolbyHD, DTS-HD, and PCM). I listened just to the PCM tracklist. When I have more time next week, I plan on trying the other two tracks. Next up though is a run through In Utero. I'm ready for my Sea Change Blu-ray to come in to compare it with the "DVD-Audio" I have.

ooh you cheeky Kiwi's always getting these Euro discs before we do!! :p

if its below £20 get it! (and flog it, I saw it going for £30 on eBay the other day).

£30? There's some cheeky git on Amazon.co.uk listing it at £99.99, plus postage. "Hurry, only one in stock."

Thank you for this review, sounds promosing. I just ordered this one on amazon uk, from beaches_music_canada. Same seller as where I ordered a few other titles already.

Recieved the Stevie Wonder and Queen disc today. Both are made in the EU, but getting them from CA is at least €5,00 cheaper per disc than buying in the shops in NL. The strange ways of tax at work probably :)

Don't buy In Utero. I think this one's a dud. The CD actually has better bass response and plays at pretty much the exact same volume level. I'd like to see someone run an analysis on the two side by side. Maybe it just comes down to the engineering on In Utero being better than Nevermind when the first recordings came out. Nevermind sounds better. I can actually tell a difference. I can't with In Utero. Disappointed in that because $20 for something that sounds close to what was already put out 20 years ago is shameful.

I'm currently being baited on the HFPA Facebook page for pointing out that the recent Blu Ray releases from XTC and Yes make the HFPA project seem limp and flaccid. Feel free to chip in ;)

Funny.
I replied:

No Mr. Haden...Rob must post here, because Universal doesn't do their job how it should be!
