Just received mine in via DHL and, much like the other discs in this series (Lotus, Wired, etc.) This is a beauty!! The cover is just like an SQ album cover with a shiny look, nice 40 page book inside in Japanese and English. The master used is seemingly the same one used on the discs from a while back ;). It sounds phenomenal!! It is discrete!!!

CD Japan has posted an unboxing video:

And SDE has a short article.

cool vid and it is a gorgeous package.. though the clip didn't show a couple of more minor contents, namely the cute little CBS SQ inner sleeve facsimiles with the pics of Sony SQ hardware and Japanese SQ discs, etc., one of which shows, not for the first time, the Japanese SQ LP release of the Quad of Edgar Winter's White Trash With Jerry La Croix album.. which afaik never saw release in the U.S.A., yet we know it was mixed in Quad because of the Robin Reels.. hmm.. maybe Sony Japan will do the Edgar Winter Quads someday.. ? wouldn't that be coooooool...!!
meantime, its time for a Bitches Brew! in delicious Quadro surround! nom nom nom! :rocks:phones

Help an old guy out, what else are we seeing on the inner sleeve? (jazz & rock)

-Super Session - done and dusted
-Abraxas
-Pearl

-Byrdmaniax?
-Stoney End ~ Barbra Streisand with Fanny! - could be interesting
-Deliverin' ~ Meh. Not a great performance or audio quality on RBCD IMHO.
I prefer the studio albums.

I see also of interest:
Chase- S/T
Raiders- Indian Reservation
Edgar Winter- White Trash (unreleased mix)

All great choices for release IMO- the Chase in particular is a real wild mix with trumpets blasting from all four corners. I'd take a Sony Japan release, but I'd rather DV tackle that one along with their other quad "Pure Music" as a two-fer.

Super Session isn't necessarily "done and dusted"- AF's SACD featured a new 5.1 mix by Al Kooper rather than the old quad mix (which is even more discrete)

Just two days ago I received notice from AmazonJP that my credit card had expired. I quickly updated my expiration dates, but since I haven't ordered from them in sometime I assumed I wouldn't get Bitches Brew until much later. Then it arrived today! Amazing package - similar to the Jeff Beck and Santana releases and, Wow, what a fun dicreet quad mix! I don't know enough history to know the source, but I am loving this!!

Not strictly "jazz & rock," but I spy:
  • Johnny Cash At San Quentin
  • Lynn Anderson's Rose Garden (recently released by Dutton Vocalion on twofer SACD with Greatest Hits)

As well as Morton Subotnick "Touch," Andy Williams [2 SQ albums], Johnny Mathis, Richard Strauss and a few whose album covers remain unrecognized [at least by me].

But it seems SONY Japan is ONLY interested in the 'heavy hitters' for QUAD SACD release so I'd expect LIVE EVIL from Miles and perhaps some more Santana with the custom 7" packaging.

And please SONY, release Bridge Over Troubled Water AT SOME POINT in QUAD SACD and BOOKENDS, if the rumor that remix exists is true.

Johnny Mathis' "Love Story" is the other one that piqued my interest when I first saw one of those Japanese SQ inner sleeves, since it never saw Quad release in the States. I picked up the "Love Story" Japanese SQ LP and it decodes well and is a great pressing, though my favourite Mathis Quads by far are "When Will I See You Again" and especially "I'm Coming Home" which is a totally gorgeous Thom Bell delight from start to finish.. hope some of his Quads are released on a modern format someday, we only have that one DTS CD.

Yes, yes, yes, I got mine! 2 days from Japan, not bad at all. I love the record and the SACDs do not disappoint, from the very first notes you're hooked!
This is my first listen at 10 am, moderate volume. I will reserve the night slot for it, an old Venezuelan rum will be my listening buddy tonight.

I'm very genuinely interested in this one. I'd love to support a release like this. But... not enough to invest in DSD converters or a backwards spinning DVD drive and machine to rip to an iso. I'd buy a bluray or DVDA in a second.
