Just received the BSS box and one thing I noticed is this new logo for something called "master source 96 24" as shown below. Never seen this before. Can anyone clarify?View attachment 14118

I will guess that the digital 96/24 rip is now being referred to as a "master source". Example: the RUSH archives are now entirely 96/24 digital files. The analog tapes were ripped and are now in the rubbish bin!

We all know many old analog tapes need baking or other tricks to get the signal from analog to digital. The engineers do not keep ripping the old analog tapes. So... once a successful transfer has been done, the engineers have a new source. The 96/24 rip.

The multi-track analog tape for BSS was ripped(with very expensive gear & with lots of TLC) back in 2002(I recall reading a very long & involved article on the process) So the new "master tapes" would be those digital files. So....

I think that symbol you mentioned refers to the original rip 96/24 digital masters being used as the source.

oh, by the way, its Panic Time: :yikes

I wrote Burning Shed to get a status on my box set which I pre-ordered, they wrote:

"Thanks for emailing us.

We will get back to you as quickly as possible but please bear with us especially during busy periods."
@:

Sure seems like a blow-off to me. :howl :howl :howl

Nah, seems like an auto-reply message to me, not a blow-off. I'd not get into any panic yet - they probably haven't replied yet because they're busy packing up orders for shipment. :)

(I also got shipping notice from Amazon UK over the weekend)

Thanks m8, :)

I am a bit surprised. I thought Burning Shed filled orders the fastest...

But I still am freakin out a bit... With YES & ELP, its personal for me. Although I like to hold hands with FredBlue and rave about Elton John in 5.1 but YES & ELP are my two favorite bands of all time. (y) I hope you get your box set soon. :smokin

more than happy to hold hands over ELP too (y) I literally wore my old tape of BSS out when I was a kid! I loooooove the album (not so fussed about most of what came after but..)

I got My copy from Burning Shed 2 hours ago. IT's a beautiful box set and worthy of collection.

I take back at some of what I said. This mix has many good things about it. You know it is a different take and it blindsided me a bit. I took this disk to my 2ndary system and gave it s go and came away with better feeling about this mix. Maybe I will come to love it like I love Vangelis' Earth (what I felt was his worst became my first). But I should have been blown away on my Big system.
primary is Oppo103/darbee pioneer sc71 Klipsch ICONs kf28/26/25 /Klipsch 10 class d powered sw front/ Mirage 15 sw powered rear /Epson 3020 projector
2ndry is Oppo 93 /Pioneer VSX d912/ Jamo 360 Global Sonic Immersions x5 /Pioneer powered 12 sw/ Sony Vaio HD Computer/Monitor VGC rt150y

Parts of this mix were done by making it louder via EQ. In my opinion. The 2001 DVD-Audio is still the definitive version and Toccata is the definitive song on that album. MAYBE I AM WRONG. Maybe in 6 months there will be gems that I will mine. There are spots on this disc they went out of their way to make it sound HARSH -GUITAR(!) overriding the vocals. Isn't ELP a keyboard fronted group? At the beginning of 3rd Impression WHERE IS GREGS VOICE????????? You can't understand ONE LYRIC??????? WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY do they not let ELP fan's at least audition the recording. Where is the wind whipping around in Toccata? Only the front speaker? It's different but not the way I heard it in concert in 1973. (Rain all 4 speaker banks/ wind whipping around clockwise and thunder counterclockwise) Jerusalem and Toccata are better on the 2nd take

The Jakko 5.1 MLP is TERRIBLE. The worst sounding surround anybody could have done. This is a soulless mix. There are spots on this disc they went out of their way to make it sound Bad.

:banana::banana: The first review is in. Yaaaaay!:banana::banana:

SONY I WILL DO TRILOGY AND PICTURES for FREE. I have the experience, the ear, and the proper fan perspective than non fan professionals. Jakko is NOT an ELP fan folks.

It depends. When dealing with labels like Kscope, Panegyric then the Shed are almost always fastest. This BSS release though is major label Sony so Burning Shed is at their mercy. Though I ordered mine from Amazon "UK" it has shipped from Germany (which seems to happen almost every time I order from Amazon UK). Looking forward to hearing it for sure, ELP (especially the classic era) has always been special to me.

I Just love what SW did to Aqualung WTF happened to the listless 1st 2 ELPs and then the great bail on BSS? Why hand it off? Maybe nobody could measure up to the genius of the 2001 Rhino release.

I'd heard rumours that SW walked away due to something akin to "creative differences"...

Here is the reason, SW is not a fan of ELP, see his reply:

"I'm afraid I can't help much with this. I'm not familiar with the albums you mention, and can't really count myself much of an ELP fan (though I really like Keith Emerson's hammond organ playing), which is why I felt I couldn't really continue and honestly felt a bit of a fraud doing those first 2! But at my recommendation the project is now in the very capable hands of Jakko, so fingers crossed Sony will continue the series to include the albums you mention."

I'm not trusting any reviews until I either hear it myself or read a review from the likes of JonUrban, BobRomano, timbre4, etc.

Well, I enjoyed the first review, as it told me that the new remix is not a carbon copy of the 2001 BSS mix, so that's a good thing, who wants a carbon copy of another mix.
Look forward to reading other reviews as i did not order the big boxset as I ordered the 3 disk which won't be out for another month.

Agreed. I found that original surround mix to be very awkward in spots, and I always enjoyed SW's mixes of "ELP" and "Tarkus" much more than the original BSS mix.
I hope SW can do the same with his own remixes of Yes' "Fragile". That mix is also very weird in many spots as well...
