Then why is it called "dual mono" instead of simply "stereo?" What's the difference?

Simply because the original mono elements come out of BOTH r/l front speakers as opposed to some mono soundtracks which ONLY come out of the center channel. If it was stereo, it would most likely be DOLBY surround and decode as such [through all 5.1 speakers w/discrete elements]

Ah, gotcha. That makes sense. For what it's worth, I don't think I have any films in my collection with mono soundtracks confined to just the center channel; they're all duplicated in the left and right fronts.

I watched Scott Cooper's ANTLERS on HBO last night and was mightily disappointed. Produced by Guillermo del Toro I suppose I was expecting more. Production design was fine, surround was excellent but the story was ultimately depressing. What we need in 2022 is a GREAT horror tale, expertly executed but this isn't it

Thanks for the heads-up - I'll adjust my expectations accordingly. I find Guillermo to be highly over-rated and his name attached to anything lowers my expectations. Scott Cooper (I dug Out of the Furnace) and Keri Russell's face still got me interested but only marginally. Maybe if I can get it on sale in future.

I recently got a bunch of obscure horrors that I'm enjoying at the moment, one of which was this one: Amazon.com: Eyes of Fire (Special Edition) [Blu-ray] : Dennis Lipscomb, Guy Boyd, Rebecca Stanley, Avery Crounse: Movies & TV Includes a ~25 minute longer retitled cut (Crying Blue Sky) that I watched the other night. Early 80's independent folk/period horror/fantasy that's definitely worth a look if you're in the mood.

Currently on HBO ... JUST WATCH IT. A NEW CULT FAV! INCREDIBLY ENTERTAINING.....(y)(y) way up
I wanted to see this one for sure but then last night I happened to flip to HBO just to check out a few minutes (already well into the movie). Well the scene I happened to see was where that dude with the long hair and beard was doing something, to cure I suppose, what I assumed was the main character by licking his leg. Then I changed the channel. That out of context scene put me on the fence as to whether or not I was going to watch the whole movie because it was so goofy/weird/off-the-wall that I thought it might not be worth my time.

Your thumbs up has pushed me over the fence. I am definitely going to check it out.

FYI... if you are into Marvel movies, the latest Spiderman movie will be on Disney+ on starting March 1st.
