A couple things from reading (catching up on) the last few pages.

I really liked The King’s Man. I found it just as good as the first Kingsman movie. I can’t believe I went to the theater and sat through that dreck of a sequel, The Golden Circle. They should of called it the circle of crap.

All the Marvel Spiderman, The Hulk and Venom movies are licensed to Sony. So, they won’t be seen on Disney Plus anytime soon.

I loved Van Helsing! I was hoping for at least one sequel but that never came to fruition.

Avatar was okay and really good in 3D. It’ll be interesting to see how the sequels do since it’s been several years (2009). I know I’ve lost interest. But, if they can keep rebooting the comic book movies over and over, who knows??

Glad you liked THE KING'S MAN, Perp. I thought it was an excellent PRE~QUEL to the Kingsman series and of course it was a bit GOOFY...it WAS based on a comic book after all. Rhys Ifans as The Mad Monk, Rasputin was OVER THE TOP! Will order it in 4K once the price comes down.

Liked AVATAR better on second viewing in 3D. Look forward to the Sequel but Cameron IS planning MULTIPLE sequels ... will he live long enough to complete them considering the gap between the first ... and second????? Really wish they'd release the Uncut ABYSS which has already been 4K remastered ... awaiting release! Soon ...they say!

I wonder which other Marvel movies are licensed outside of Disney.
If you're talking about MCU, that's really just the three Spider-Man movies and Incredible Hulk.

If you're talking about characters, all of the Spider-Man family is Sony. Hulk is still controlled by Universal, but only for solo films, which is why Marvel didn't need to come to terms with Universal the way they did with Sony. Fantastic Four (and almost all related), along with the X-Men (and all related) were Fox, but of course that's part of Disney now. The weird one is the Sub-Mariner, which is also controlled by Universal for some reason, despite connections to both the FF and the Avengers.

Columbus (2016) BD:
1. DTS-MA 5.1 is surprisingly discrete and active throughout the entire movie which is good to see, especially for a drama. Insects, rain, traffic, echo from big rooms, the score and sound design - lots going on most of the time.
2. Performances/direction/writing, all superb, especially for a debut feature by the director.
3. Cinematography is incredible. Almost every scene is like a painting.
4. If you're in the mood for a leisurely-paced drama with some nice architecture, check this out.
5. I got this one: Amazon.com: Columbus Blu-Ray + DVD [Region Free] : Movies & TV but there's also this overpriced release https://www.amazon.com/Columbus-Blu...7033517&sprefix=columbus+blu+r,aps,299&sr=8-1
6. The Director's new one looks good too. Colin Farrell's always good:

BTW, Tomorrow Night [Saturday, March 12 @ 8PM EST] HBO is premiering Steven Spielberg's WEST SIDE STORY....quite unusual, IMO, as the UHD4K disc comes out on March 15th!

Good one.....and also available to RENT on Amazon Prime. According to some reviewers on Amazon, the BD~V of COLUMBUS is REGION B! Thankfully, my OPPO 205 is ALL REGION!

I just checked the back of my Network Releasing BD and it states that it's Regions A/B/C but I popped it into my Region A player and whatdyaknow, it won't play due to it being Region B-locked. Artwork lies! Hate it when they can't get basics right, like when the artwork states that a movie is DTS-MA 5.1 but when you spin in up, it's Dolby Digital 2.0 - argh!

I watched Columbus first on streaming service Kanopy and while the audio was stereo only and sounded bad in the high frequencies (that "swishy" effect that early DVDs with DTS audio sometimes suffered from), the image looked nice.

I especially like Highdefdigest's reviews of films as they sometimes compare the STREAMED version of a film to the actual physical disc. And in almost ALL instances, the physical disc is preferred. Here in the states, NETFLIX, Amazon Prime and all the HBO, Cinemax, FLIX, etc cable networks still stream the audio in DD 5.1 so naturally, a Physical Disc toting DTS~HD MA 5.1 or Dolby True HD Lossless codecs almost ALWAYS sound superior
...and as regards the picture ... limited bandwidth on the streaming services is never as good as the physical disc ... even 4K!

The same, I understand, applies to music, as well. The physical disc always sounds better unless the streaming services have access to 96/24 or better master sources ...which, as we know, is NOT ALWAYS THE CASE.

Truth in Advertising???????

Spielberg's West Side Story has been available to watch on Disney Plus the past couple of weeks.

Lady in a Cage (1968) BD:
1. A surprising DTS-MA 5.1 on this release: Lady In A Cage | Via Vision Entertainment Surround activity is limited to the score with all the action coming from the front/centre. Better than just a mono release though (which is what Criterion would have given us and tried to talk it up had they gotten their mits on it - ahem).
2. Image is OK. While the film is black and white, it shifts in some scenes to have a greenish tone. I've seen this on other releases (a Soda pictures release of Dead Man does it while the Madman release doesn't).
3. Olivia de Havilland is great as always. James Caan's first role too and plays a good baddie.
4. The acting/direction is goofy at times but nails it at others. Overall, a worthy early entry into the home invasion genre. You're left with quite a bleak view but it's only 90 minutes so worth a look I say.

Sadly, American actor William McChord Hurt passed away today at age 71. To celebrate his life, am going to view the BD~V of Ken Russell's ALTERED STATES which will always remain a favorite featuring Hurt in the leading role.

First movie I ever saw him in was Altered States with Blair Brown and Bob Balaban. I always think back to that movie when I see him in a role, because that movie really opened up my mind in new ways. More recently enjoyed his performances in the shows Goliath and Humans.
Hard to believe he is no longer with us.

My memory of him is more of Body Heat or whatever it was called. Also, 71! Why he died so young? :(
