As I mentioned the other night, I think it will be on Disney+ on March 1st. I will eventually pick up the 4K disc when the price drops in 6 months. Until then I will be happy to watch it on Disney+.

Edit: Just found out it's March 22nd and it's not on Disney+. Looks like Amazon Prime Video, Vudu and others as Pay Per View. That sucks. Guess I will wait for the bluray.

When Vinegar Syndrome had their sale last year, I managed to pick up cult favorites Scanner Cop 1 & 2 for a little over $40, both in Native UHD4K sporting HDR10, Dolby Vision and DTS~HD MA 2.0 STEREO soundtracks which decoded into 5.1 via Pro Logic II. I watched Scanner Cop 1 last night and am happy to report it's really an involving flick based on David Cronenberg's characters in SCANNERS. Both discs come in slip cases and are enclosed in a sturdy slipcase

From Decal Releasing FLEE

Release date March 1st

Also new this week is Jonas Poher Rasmussen's Flee, featuring the voices of Daniel Karimyar, Fardin Mijdzadeh, Milad Eskandari, and Georg Jagunov. This Danish animated docudrama has made history, becoming Oscar-nominated for Best Documentary Feature, Best Animated Feature and Best International Feature Film, the first film to be nominated in all three categories.

Official description: Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner Flee tells the story of Amin Nawabi as he grapples with a painful secret he has kept hidden for 20 years, one that threatens to derail the life he has built for himself and his soon to be husband. Recounted mostly through animation to director Jonas Poher Rasmussen, he tells for the first time the story of his extraordinary journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan.

Decal's Blu-ray of Flee contains a New York Film Festival Q&A with Jonas Poher Rasmussen as an extra.

“A thrilling survival story. Grade A” - IndieWire

“A powerful memoir of personal struggle and self-discovery” - The Hollywood Reporter

“5 STARS Impossible to forget” - The Guardian

“One of the most uniquely memorable animated films of the last decade” - The Film Stage

From the Digitalbits website:

Also today, our friends at Kino Lorber Studio Classics have just revealed that they’re bringing John Frankenheimer’s 1962 neo-noir political thriller The Manchurian Candidate to 4K Ultra HD later this year, complete with a new Dolby Vision HDR grade. The street date is currently listed as coming soon.

Stephen Sommer's 2004 $160M budgeted VAN HELSING is, in retrospect, a REAL HOOT from start to finish. Hugh Jackman and the undeliably gorgeous Kate Beckinsale are formidable protagonists in this exquisitely mounted production and Universal's astounding 4K [though upscaled] disc deliver every minute detail in all it's gory glory. I say 'in retrospect' because upon release Van Helsing did poorly at the box office but over the ensuing years has built up quite a cult following as it really does deliver an eye filling smorgasbord of immense proportion with state of the art CGI, unrelenting action scenes and exquisite visuals. The 1:85 aspect ratio image fills up the screen [NO black bars] and the DTS~X lossless audio is equally mind boggling. The combination of LG OLED technology and the mighty Oppo 205 enable this 4K disc to shine like never before. A VERY high Recommendation!

Watched Vinegar Syndrome's companion Scanner Cop 2 last night and can report it's better than the original and the 4K image quality and Stereo Pro Logic II decoded soundtrack are excellent.

It is invigorating to see that boutique labels like Vinegar Syndrome, Arrow, Turbine Media, Scream/Shout Factory and Kino Lorber are releasing 'forgotten' cult films in the UHD 4K format and are doing exceptional remasters in the process.
