Just watched Avatar 2's 48FPS 3D showing...Why can't we have all films in 48FPS??????

I was VERY impressed with the visuals...this was my second 3D film and it works extremely well. The plot is meh, but I was paying attention to the water simulation and rendering the entire time. The water was the best I have seen since...the first Avatar, I think.

Interestingly, the 48 fps almost completely eliminated the eye strain in 3D. There are a few scenes where the fps reverts to 24 for some stupid reason and it's really jarring and the eye strain comes back during those scenes. Luckily those are few and far between.

Because to most people—myself included—higher frame rates "cheapen" the look of moving pictures, due to the longstanding association of 24 fps with film and 30+ fps with video. More recently, even higher frame rates (45+ fps) are associated with video games. When I play a game? Sure, give me all the frames you've got. But when I watch a movie or television show, keep it at 24 fps, please.

I do like the clarity higher frame rates yield, it's like bumping up the resolution for me. Only about 80% of Avatar 2 is 48 FPS sadly, as Cameron kept switching the frame rates like Nolan switches aspect ratios.

Don't forget all the negative reviews of Jackon's The Hobbit at 48fps.

“At first, in the Smaug battle, I thought I was watching a video game: pellucid pictures of indistinct creatures.” – Time

“One thing The Hobbit is not is a celebration of the beauty of film. A celebration of video-game realms, perhaps.” – Philadelphia Inquirer

“There are scenes when it causes the images to be crisper and brighter but, especially in instances of high CGI content, it creates a non-cinematic picture. That may be the primary reason why isolated moments feel like video game outtakes.” – ReelViews

TRUE Dolby ATMOS for theaters consists of 56+ speakers ......... so I'd say the 4 overheads in most 'home theaters' is UNDERKILL!

Even the first Avatar in 3D was visually BREATHTAKING...don't know if I could last 3 hours in a theater though!
do it if you can. I found it worthwhile and enjoyed it a lot. I'm not a 3D movie fan, but this movie really impressed me.

I understand we all have our personal preferences, but, to me at least, preferring a low-fi format (24fps, e.g.) seems like saying that a CD of Bing Crosby’s Christmas album is missing all the rhythmic clicks and pops of the 78 records of my youth. Yeah, it is, but I’ll take the higher-fi pretty much any day.

So what does one do to decompress from an exhausting Holiday Season .... Er, watch Ben Stiller's comedy in Kino Lorber's SPECTACULAR Native UHD4K remaster. A silly film to be sure and probably offensive to everyone [Robert Downey Jr. in black face, afro wig and jive talk comes to mind] but for $15 during KL's recent winter sale, a must see. Looks like it was shot yesterday ..... a really miraculous transfer with an incredible immersive soundtrack featuring music from the Rolling Stones and Creedence Clearwater at alia!

I seem to recollect a hilarious commentary track during which Robert Downey, Jr. announces that he won't drop character until he's done the DVD commentary track! Maybe it's time for me to take that 4K plunge! Thanks again for yet another reco-RAM-dation! You've NEVER steered me wrong!

I have a previous BD release of Ordinary People and it's just a smidge of a step up from a DVD transfer with Dolby Digital 2.0 (even though the artwork says 5.1). Great movie, but I think I'll hold off until it gets a native 4K release - which is what I'm doing for other BD releases from now on. Gotta be discerning for some of the obscure titles such as this one I got on BD a while ago but is getting a 4K release soon: Effects 4K Blu-ray (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray) ARGH! Always a gamble.
