BTW, Mr. E., compared to Prince's other two big screen appearances, UNDER THE CHERRY MOON and GRAFITTI BRIDGE, I consider Purple Rain his 'masterpiece!'

He was first and foremost an astounding LIVE performer but his androgynous demeanor, IMO, precludes him from ever being considered a 'romantic lead!'

No doubt, Purple Rain was more akin to SHAKESPEARE IN THE BOWERY but with it's paltry $7.2M budget and casting all of Prince's musical buds do make for an entertaining flick and IMO, the music speaks for itself!

Better than a lot of those pretentious foreign flicks which aimlessly meander for over two hours in the name of ART [?] and are considered to be 'masterpieces!' More like TORTURE!

Sutherland appeared in over 200 films throughout his 60 year career and worked with directors as diverse as John Landis and Federico Fellini. And in John Scheslinger's DAY OF THE LOCUST he even played a character named HOMER SIMPSON!
