Criterion has a 50% off sale twice a year, but i can't remember if prereleases are part of the deal.

This latest batch of Criterion titles won’t be released until January 2025 and I’m sure the B & N sale will be around Black. Friday/Cyber Monday and AmazonUS usually matches their prices around that time as well.

AFAIK the rule is if the title is being released the month of the B&N sale (July/November) then it qualifies, otherwise it does not.

That has been my experience and trust me, B&N Criterion sales gets my bank account flagged for suspicious behavior.

I'm not a big anime watcher, but you should check out the 2009 "Hypersonic" 5.1 Mix on Akira (1988)...it's a showstopper!

I'm sure @Sonik Wiz would also have some other examples of good surround activity.

I was so obviously jazzed about Sanjuro/Yojimbo that my wife took me out to help her return something ... and now own a 5' Christmas tree that looks like those little green ceramic ones.

I’m probably the last person in here to see this movie, I enjoyed it but my better half started playing with her phone about 20 minutes in, she says it was too weird for her liking.
As a movie i’d give it 8 out of 10, since I never saw it before the remastering I can’t compare the soundtrack, normally I prefer atmos movies to atmos albums but this never blew my mind the way some soundtracks do, i’d give the atmos mix 8 out of 10 also, I really enjoyed the extras, an interview with Oliver Stone and an interview with the atmos mixer Lon Bender (unfortunate name), i’d give the extras 9 out of 10.
I’d say if you have the original blu-ray it’s probably not worth buying it again for the atmos

Note: I was 'waffling' whether to put this in the STREAMING thread but decided to put in on this thread as I do consider it a masterwork from director Alfonso Cuarón [Y Tu Mama, También] as it shares some of the virtues and allegories of that film. Now streaming on APPLE+ TV, I have watched the first three episodes and was literally blown away at the direction and content not to mention the discrete soundscape which has been afforded this series. And I am not alone as ROGER EBERT.com has also awarded it a well deserved 3 1/2 * review:

I watched Leon in 4K for the first time this week as well and really appreciated the sound on it. Always enjoyed that one!

Last week I checked out Requiem For A Dream on 4K UHD. Somehow I never saw this film and it's a unique one. Pretty dark stuff but man, what an Atmos mix!
