Listening to in Dolby Atmos Streaming, via Tidal/Apple/Amazon

Right--sorry, @perzon57: we Yanks get in the presumptuous habit of posting links to Apple Music US. For Norway, I think you'd have to edit the URL, replacing "us" with "no" (!).

What I usually do, I click on the link and it opens in Apple Music on my PC. Then I log out and in again and then I'm able to add it to my library. This works 9 out 10 times.

The brick had them all in 5.1 so hopefully Chris Franz was able to revisit (remember him saying it was a blast to work on the 5.1 mixes), but even if they just transferred the original 5.1 in an Atmos wrapper, it's all good.

The guy who did the Talking Heads 5.1 mixes, E.T. Thorngren, also did the Atmos mix of Kenny Wayne Shepherd's The Traveler, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's working his way through the Talking Heads catalogue now.

These kinds of re-remixes are kind of low-hanging fruit, because all the (costly) legwork of finding the original analog tapes, transferring them to digital, lining them up and doing the edits, etc. is already done, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see more of this kind of thing for "catalog" Atmos remixes, before they start really trawling the vaults for things that have never been remixed at all.

These mixes are so good! Overheads consist of fronts and rears doubled at lower volume, AFAICT, but it still makes for a great "enhanced 5.1" experience. Maybe it's been too long since I listened to the DVD, but I found myself having to check some of the tracks against their stereo counterparts to make sure these weren't completely different versions!

Edit: hit play on Wild Wild Life and… this might be another one of those Warner fake ones. Which is strange since 77 is actually good?

Can someone take a listen to the drum mix on this one and confirm they butchered the mix on this one?

When the chorus hits on track 7 it sounds horrible

Listening on AirPods Pro right now and also last night on my 5.1.2 system it sounded horrible

When I toggle atmos off the drums have so much more excitement and switching it back on just loses the snare crack and excitement

Whoa--they're all coming, then! I searched for more TH in Atmos not 2 hours ago and found only 77.

Can someone with Tidal see if they're there, too, check the mixer credits, and see if Dave's hunch is right?

That's my guess. I haven't A/B'd it against the DVD, though. (But they didn't just want to throw them up as "Dolby Audio"? Maybe Apple and everyone else are uncertain about whether they want to continue supporting that format.)

Edit: continuing to listen...I think the heights also have some added reverb?

I see only three TH albums on Tidal right now, but no mixing credit sadly.
