If you're grumpy now DMJ, I just hope your Quadrophenia doesn't turn up defective like some members are reporting...

Its a shame you've not found the effects of PLII to your liking - just as we were saying yesterday wrt musical taste, each to their own :)

About Quadrophenia: Perhaps this is why the shipments are being delayed? UMG has caught a bad batch and is waiting for more to be made???

About faux surround: I am always open to new stuff and I will try anything once in search of better sound, so what is this "Surround Master"?

Hmm, more analog time based positional audio like the Hughes stuff... No HDMI

Hmm Part II, interseting review by our own Connecticut Yankee Jon.

Could be a duff batch.. :( home from work now and I just checked mine (good excuse to give it another play!) and it's all ok, so I reckon you're right.

Surround Master is a little box of tricks from Down Under, quite a few QQ-ers have one and they all rave about it. The guys behind it are members here too afaik.

Doobie Brothers The Captain and Me

Jethro Tull Aqualung

Since Aqualung has been released as a blu ray as part of the 40th anniversary boxset, I highly doubt that will be in the pipeline. As far as Doobie Brothers Captain and Me, I'd much rather see one of their other early albums like Toulouse Street released in 5.1 since Captain and Me has already had 5.1 treatment.
I'm not a huge fan of just re-releasing the same title (even if the mix and format is different) over and over again that has already been mixed in 5.1.

Edit: Oops! Got caught up in all the hub-bub about the upcoming new SACD releases and thought this was in response to that. My bad. These two are GREAT titles.

I have Neo:X Music (as well as cinema, etc); Dolby PLII Music(as well as movie, etc.); Dolby Pro Logic; & Neo:X Music + THX (as well as movie, etc.) to process pseudosurround on my receiver. I am not sure if one is better than another, so will have to listen to well known music and evaluate. Thanks for info. I never used these before to simulate surround, but from what I have heard somfar, I really like it.
Having tried all of them, count me in the Dolby PLII camp for both music and movie surround sound listening modes for 2 channel sources. It just sounds the best to my ears. While they do not match true multi-channel input/output, they do a pretty good job and for movies any difference is often negligible.

Definitely PLII for me, switching quickly back and forth DTS Neo immediately seems punchier and livelier since it keeps the full stereo intact in front left and right and then steers stuff centre and rear, unlike PLII, which aims to shift stuff round the rears much more, so it seems less gutsy initially.. but crank up the master volume a bit, start to pick apart what PLII does in the rears and get it setup just to your liking and the separation kicks in and really there's no contest imho, PLII Music for music (and PLII Movie for, well, movies and TV of course) all the way! (Until I get a Surround Master!) :p

I have liked this the best so far myself, but wasn't sure if any of the other modes were different or better. Like so many other things, this is subjective as to what you prefer to hear. I agree the separation to the rear beats the others so far. I will still experiment with some settings in the modes and see what sounds best to me.

Listening to Vanishing Point on DIG, such a good song. It really illustrates what Boz Scaggs is capable of with the right song. IMO this song is as good as Lido Shuffle or Lowdown.

What damned delusion in that neon lightning
A run of luck is in the air
Shining brighter than any flush of diamonds
A magic carpet of despair

BTW, Boz was 70 on June 8th, LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!

First impression...pushing the limits of which/how many musical genres can be mixed together and still work...this is not easy listening, hum the tune on the way to work kinda stuff...but neither was prog rock when I was a kid; it took a few, or more listens to open the mind/ears...I need to revisit when I'm in the mood for the complexity of this music...has the "feel" of passionate artistry so hat's off for that!

Wouldn't you say it has a Celtic feel?

I wouldn't stop there...Celtic meets orchestral meets modern prog meets multiple vocals then channel some Steve Hackett and throw in Gavin Harrison drumming...there's a lot on the plate to digest! A "drive by" listen won't do it for me. It requires a dedicated listen :phones
