So I'm walking by the television set, and I figure, "oh what the hell." The sumbitch lights up! I grab the disc on the top of the pile and plop it in:

I had about thirty minutes in Kichijoji, so I zipped into an HMV--nothing. Across the street is a Disc Union I had hit two daze before, picking up a Japanese only copy of King Crimson's USA, so I headed up the stairs not expecting anything. BAM! Yaz(oo)'s In Your Room box for 6400 yen (just under $60)! Surprisingly active mix for an 80s synth duo--very discrete and very fun--all of a sudden I'm 21 and dancing in Chicago clubs: Neo, Smart Bar, Berlin, 950, Medusa's, . . .

Telly's still working!

Rather than listen to You and Me Both (I wanted to continue that ride), I thought it best to listen while the listening was good, so I grabbed the next disc on the pile

Shinjuku has eight Disc Unions. My wife was kind enough to set me free in the streets for three hours. The night I was there, Disc Union was having a 10% off sale at all of their stores. At the first one, I found three releases. Next six stores--nada y nada y nada y . . . . About 15 minutes before closing, I made it to the eighth store, texting my wife on the way, letting her know where I could be found. I went right to the boxsets, and peeking out was this 7" package of a release I'd been jonesing for since QQ turned me on to Rob Reed and Magenta. I did a double-take when I looked at the price tag. I even took my cheaters out and counted off the number of zeros, thinking I must be missing one: 1200 yen! That's just over $11! And with the discount, it was $10 even!! Listening to it now (as loud as I dare, given the proximity to my sleeping wife), tonight, I consider myself the luckiest surround sound listener on the face of this earth. I sit, in my sweet spot, beneath the cascading waves of surround sound crashing all around. Can't wait to crank this one!

Has anyone got the Les Mis Blu Ray?. How good is the surround?.

it’s been a while since I played it but I remember it being pretty good.

here’s what I had to say on QQ in 2014;

‘it's genuine 5.1, sound quality is gorgeous.. I guess it depends whether you enjoyed the vocal performances of Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman et al in the movie.. particularly as the lead vocals are very centre-heavy and dialled up in the mix.’

There is a Japanese boxset with multi-channel of Yazoo's "Upstairs at Eric's" out there?
It's NOT a Japanese boxset; it's just that I had to travel to Japan to find it! There was a release in Europe and one in the US. The one I found is from UK/Europe. Two polls here at QQ, each focusing on one of the original albums found in the box.

Not Japanese -- I have it and it's really good! So far I've only listened to the title album, but there is another one included (thanks to John, btw, for a recent acquisition 8')).

Have you thoroughly checked out your HDMI cable and connections Clement; they can be reallll hinky (technical term:unsure:)?

-where did you read that Donald Byrd's Q8 had a closet quad vinyl ?

Hey Clement

Good scores in Japan. I have been on a few family trips there and was allowed to look for Vinyl and CDs. I have been to a disc union in Shinjuku that had used vinyl upstairs. My best finds were in Osaka at a newsstand/ used vinyl and cd outlet...sadly gone now... and a very crowded and narrow record store on the third floor of a building near Kyoto city hall.
Wonderful country to visit and plenty to do but always fun to look for music there.
If only I could find a warehouse full of 70s Sansui new old stock................

hi fizzy! 🤗
it was on Discogs but tbh i have consulted my oracle and touchstone in all such matters (our very own steelydave) and he believes the listing is in error, fuelled in part by his pic of the LP with a hype sticker saying "available in Quad" or something along those lines! yikes! 🤪

Hinky indeed! I have an Hitachi 51" projection tv that we purchased when my daughter was in kindergarten. That's my one and only daughter who starts grad school next month! The tv doesn't even have an HDMI port! I have some sort of adaptor. We get no antenna picture either. For the last year or so, it just goes out sporadically, sometimes for a few days, sometimes not at all for a few months! So, while it is still working:

Wow! Absolutely ethereal! My wife was kind enough to let me hit one more Disc Union before we went to dinner with her family, who live near the Nakano station, where there is yet another Disc Union. I found a second copy of the Japanese release of King Crimson's USA (thinking someone on this site might like it) and in the box set section, I found Goldfrapp's Tales of Us box for 6400 yen (about $59!). When I was explaining what a find it was to my wife later that night, back in our hotel room (I had to leave it untouched throughout dinner, dessert, coffee, and conversation with her aunt!), I opened up the box--WHAT!?! Unopened LP, signed lithograph from the duo, and a card telling me this was box #059! My wife didn't quite grasp the import of it all, but she certainly knew I was over the tsuki no usagi (rabbit in the moon)!
