Holy smokes. Would never have guessed there were that many. And I thought it was cool to have One French SACD. Lol

Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony nos. 5 and 6

Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra
Wojciech Rajski (conductor)

If anyone is looking for Beethoven's 5th in surround, look no further than this one. The Polish Chamber Orchestra under the leadership of Rajski is completely up to the challenge and gives a high voltage performance that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best. On top of this throw in TACET, who have worked their Mch Magic to produce an immersive 5.1 surround mix...

and the result is breathtaking!

Ah well, there's a big old musical world out there beyond the English speaking nations and tons of cool surround stuff has made it out from all sorts of countries apart from the U.S and U.K over the years.. it's a shame more people don't explore music outside their own language set/comfort zone but for the people here and out there browsing here as guests who are interested I hope the images and info I have posted might prove useful in broadening their tastes/exposing them to great new surround music... if anyone here has any questions about any of the discs in the pics please ask away?

Shostakovich - Symphony no.7

Russian National Orchestra
Paavo Järvi (conductor)

This is one of the recordings nominated for the 2015 Best Surround Recording. I just had to hear it and so I got it today. Well, I must say it is an impressive surround recording and I feel it is deserving of the nomination. It is an immersive surround recording with a deep soundstage, pinpoint imaging of the various instruments, and nice bloom. The performance is excellent and has garnered rave reviews. So, it is a natural choice for the nomination.

But, that doesn't excuse the fact that so many other equally deserving Multichannel surround recordings have been ignored. Awards shows might be mostly political BS, but they do help get the word out and raise the profile of artistic works, performances and recordings. I certainly would like to see Steven Wilson's, Andy Jackson's and others' work get the recognition it surely deserves as well.

For those that would like to enjoy this fine surround music but don't have the necessary SACD capability at home...or have an automobile surround set up in their car...here is an alternative

Fleetwood Mac- Tusk 96(??) /24 DVD...
AWESOME mix...
fidelity poor compared to normal DTS 96/24 fare......
still, great "rediscovering" this after...35 years???...

well, I've only given it one listen so I'm gonna reserve judgement til i've heard it a few more times at least.. but I found the 5.1 to be a bit loud (I couldn't crank it anywhere near as much as I would with so many surround discs.. and I could detect no dreaded Dialog Normalization nonsense embedded in the DTS that could have caused that loudness..) ..often there was too much low bass and a bright slightly fatiguing at times top end.. mixwise I didn't initally enjoy some of the "new" reverb on a couple of numbers, it jarred in places in fact.. but am I happy to finally hear this one in surround? Yes Yes YES! Many times I forgot about my gripes on EQ/mixing decisions etc and had a huge grin plastered on my face! More listening required! :D
