Wow - song number 2 (Welcome To The Machine) is simply frightening if you have it at reference levels and aren't ready for it.....
I have to say, that to my ears, this disc sounds better than DSOTM.

Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony nos. 5 and 6
Polish Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra
Wojciech Rajski (conductor)
If anyone is looking for Beethoven's 5th in surround, look no further than this one. The Polish Chamber Orchestra under the leadership of Rajski is completely up to the challenge and gives a high voltage performance that can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best. On top of this throw in TACET, who have worked their Mch Magic to produce an immersive 5.1 surround mix...
and the result is breathtaking!

Just ordered based on your recommendation. I notice Tacet have quite a lot of classical SACD releases. Do you have any of the others?
Neil, here are three pages of Tacet SACD releases http://www.hraudio.net/search.php?format=0&keywords=Tacet&page=1
If you are a fan of Ravel's music this one comes highly recommended http://www.hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=8909
Tacet is also releasing in BD~A http://www.hraudio.net/search.php?format=6&keywords=Tacet
I do think Guthrie cranked out a better 5.1 mix for "Wish You Were Here" than he did on "Dark Side of the Moon", but going against most of the forum, I actually prefer both of his 5.1 mixes to the 70s Quad mixes. Yeah, the 5.1 mixes could be more discrete, but especially to me as a mixing engineer, a mix is not just about where things go and how loud they are, and Guthrie's mix is better when it comes to using mix processing (EQ, compression, reverbs, delays, etc.) to excite the mix and make it an enjoyable listening experience. Just my opinion, but everyone has one, don't they?

Great! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
If you're thinking about Beethoven's symphonies I would definitely get the 7th & 8th Symphonies on TACET. Beethoven's 7th symphony is very popular, particularly because of its famous 2nd movement "Andante". It's been used in many movies, such as "The King's Speech" (2010).
Some other recommended TACET surround discs to start off with are:
Bach - Brandenburg Concertos.
Vivaldi - Four Seasons
The Tube Only Night Music. This is a recording of Mozart's famous "A Light Night Music".
As Ralph mentioned TACET's Ravel disc is superb.
If you are interested smaller ensembles, all of the Auryn String Quartet's recordings are excellent: Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert, Schmann, Brahms...
TACET also released several surround recordings on DVD-A ...along with SACD and Bluray. Here's a list... http://www.tacet.de/main/seite1.php...msPerPage=50&&searchstring=surround&search=no
I encourage you to try any discs that appeal to you. TACET surround recordings are of the highest standard.
The Norwegian label 2L also produces stunning surround recordings which can also be enthusiastically recommended... http://www.hraudio.net/discsbylabel.php?label=393
Me too
Interesting story about the 5.1 blu ray of WYWH. When I got mine several years ago, I remember putting it on and having a bunch of stuff missing at the beginning of the song WYWH (back ground acoustic, David clearing his throat etc) and thought I had a defective disc. Took it to my son's and put it on his system and it played fine. Hmmm. What I discovered was not long before I picked the immersion set up, I had invested in a new 7.2 AVR. At the time of purchase, I only had enough speakers for 5.1 so proceeded to set the surrounds as "rears" on the AVR. Not long after, I finished my 7.2 system and suddenly voila, every nuance on that disc that was missing had returned! So in setting the 5.1 arrangement up for movies, I inadvertently lost surround information on this and perhaps many other discs. Who knew? @:
It's Sunday morning. Time for some BF Avalon followed by Boys and Girls and then maybe some Porcupine Tree.. Who knows maybe a Sprinsteen video later this afternoon.
All I want for Christmas is "Avalon".
