I realize this is "ancient" news by QUAD standards but I finally opened up my newly acquired DSOTM Immersion box set and went right for the BD~A and played for the VERY first time Alan Parson's astounding QUAD remix.

I thought my trusty SACD was great but this original and highly prized Parson's 'creation' was nothing short of SPECTACULAR.

Hopefully, Universal (Capitol) will re~release it in the future as a stand alone BD~A so that everyone can experience it in all its true glory without the marbles, scarves, coasters and RBCDs [which I will play in the near future].

I also urge everyone within earshot to buy the Allman Brothers' Idlewild South boxset (AmnazonUK has the best prices). The 5.1 remix is likewise spectacular with a bountiful of extras on the BD~A.

Better late than never... as they say.

The amount of 'extra' merchandise they throw in with those immersion sets is a trip, isn't it?
Not complaining, though. I am so pleased they put all that on the BD-A. :51banana:

Straight Outta Lynwood is Weird Al's only 5.1 CD disc and it is a beauty. Amazing surround sound. Hysterically funny. I wish he would release more 5.1.

Actually, Pink Floyd's back catalogue is currently being distributed by Warner Music, who acquired Parlophone in the great EMI sell-off, and based on their recent "Tusk" and "Loaded" releases, it looks like they have left Blu-Ray audio in the dust, which is a shame when you consider what Universal have done recently with "Idlewild South", a disc that everyone needs in their collection. :)

Yes, RT, early last year there was speculation that both SONY and Warners would start releasing a batch of new/old BD~A stereo and 5.1 discs and alas, only a scant few materialized. And so it seems, Universal who released hit and miss BD~A releases has somewhat ceased productioin of BD~A product, as well. IMHO, even Universal with FEW exceptions did not take advantage of the copious real estate available on a BD~A. I was lusting after complete box sets on one or two BD~As (like a serious Motown compilation disc) but that NEVER happened and from the looks of things....it NEVER will.

Although I've not received my Tusk boxset yet (en route, as we speak), I, too, would've preferred it in true Hi Res on one BD~A even though from what I've heard, the DTS option is superb (still LOSSY, though).

I highly recommend the Weird Al Ultimate Video Collection. It includes all his best hits in Dolby 5.1. Haven't heard it since I got my OPPO so not sure if it's just big stereo or has any aggressive mixes. Will have to listen again soon. Either way, TURN IT UP. IT ROCKS!!! :music

Merry Christmas Brett. Have you received your "box of goodies" from the folks in Indiana, yet? I'm just laying low for the holidays........we're busy through the week~end. Last Night I re~treated my (much maligned at QQ) DVD~A of Staind (14 shades of) with a NEW Disc treatment called Ultra Bit and it actually sounded AUDIOPHILE. The surround extension has a few discrete flourishes and I can understand QQer's disappointment with the 5.1 mix but upfront (and personal) it really sounds quite astounding. Right up Markie's alley. Speaking of, where is he?

Any more recommendations, Brett? I did manage to cop the Third [and final] Season of Hannibal on BD~V for $15.

I did receive the BIS Sibelius box set and kyaa........excellent! And the Pentatone DGG QUAD remaster of Treemonisha is a revelation. A Ragtime Opera for people who hate (or don't understand Italian, German & French) Opera!

And a very Merry Christmas to you, Ralphie! :brew

Glad to hear I wasn't losing my mind with Staind. Your assessment of it sounds spot on. But, playing Avalon filled the room with a lovely, fresh breeze. What an amazing album!

No package yet. But the turkey is in the oven. Yep, I found a peewee sized one to fit in my little Japanese oven. Well, this morning I watched When Harry Met Sally and thought of you in the Big Apple.

You might have seen them already, but Spike Jonze's 2013 film "Her" with Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson is a touching and thought provoking love story. And I just finished watching "The Best Offer" (2013) film with Geoffery Rush. It's another 'love' story with a twist. The story wasn't quite as good as "Her" but the acting and production are very good.

And Markie... Life's been a real drag without you!! We're singing the blues over here. ;)
I guess it's time to pull out the secret weapon...

That should get Markie's Mojo working, Brett.

I watched the incredible Marlon Brando documentary tonight http://www.amazon.com/Listen-Me-Mar...ords=marlon+brando+documentary&tag=acleint-20

Simply amazing. I didn't know what to expect. SO insightful of the man's art, craft, pain, suffering, angst and struggles with the Hollywood system that both created and detroyed him.

Also listened again to Olu Dara's Neighborhood. I cannot understand why Adam was lukewarm to this album. It's really incredible.

Another revelation: Jerry Granelli's Sandhills Reunion with spoken words by Rinde Eckert. A most stunningly unusual album with immersive surround and some evocative jazz and ambient music. On the Canadian Songlines Label. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandhills-R...068JFK2/ref=ntt_mus_dp_dpt_5?tag=acleint06-21

Another slam dunk: Lyn Stanley's audiophile extraordinaire outing "Interludes." Stereo but one of those to die for you are there recordings.http://www.musicdirect.com/p-362420-lyn-stanley-interludes-hybrid-stereo-sacd.aspx Brett, I paid under $20 delivered for this album, brand new from ImportCD (w/10% off sale).

Also coming out in March on BD~V....the guilty pleasure XANADU with Olivia Newton John. Always Corny, Always, Wonderful! And with the always delightful Gene Kelly.

Thanks for the tips! Looks like I need to head over to my local jazz shop during the holiday break. They might even have some holiday sales going on.
This evening I watched a new Christmas flick with Forest Whitaker, called Black Nativity (2013). It's a musical about a family in Harlem that over comes personal conflicts. The music is a mixture of soul & gospel. I really got into it and who knew Forest Whitaker could sing!!?

Speaking of hidden voices and musicals, how can any Brando fan forget Guys and Dolls?

Perhaps he was no Sinatra, but Marlon was one of a kind both on & off screen. Love his movies!
