I haven't heard it, though I'd be willing to seek it out for a good price. The "heavies" of my collection, so far are:
Peace Sells
Metallica
Balls to Picasso
Dance of Death
the Opeth heavy stuff
and that's about it. I'd like to find Alice in Chains Greatest Hits at a good price too. Isn't there a hard rock/metal thread around here? There sure ought to be. I like hard rock and metal in surround, but it doesn't tend to be done all that well, so it would be good to be able to identify the ones that are really worth hunting down.

IMO Core, Metallica, Dance of Death and Peace Sells would be on that list. Balls to Picasso is for Bruce die-hards, again IMO.

I wouldn't pay big bucks for it. It's not ultra discrete. I got mine for $10.
There is a metal thread... https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/fo...y-metal-in-surround&highlight=Ear+candy+metal

I'm not sure what you think about industrial rock, but nine inch nails: the downward spiral (SACD) has an excellent surround mix. The fidelity could be a little better. Anyway, it's pretty awesome!!!

And... Linkin Park - Reanimation is freaking unbelievable!

Still listening to Eagles When He'll Freezes Over. Don't care if it's only Dts. It's outstanding and quite discrete in all the right places I love this thing. Was never a huge fanof the Eagles but as I listentothem now I realize just how good they are.

I'm pretty sure that has been my reaction. I never used to care for them....but now that we have some of these releases in high quality surround....I just cannot believe how freaking talented they are. That DTS blows most "higher" resolutions out of the water.

Reanimation is on the ol' wishlist too. I moderately appreciate NIN. I've heard Downward Spiral and my first impression wasn't great. I actually prefer the mix for With Teeth.

My sister often had their tunes playing, so I've always dug their music. But Hotel California is wearing pretty thin for me. I've just heard it so much. Great song, though. I was reading that the "steely knives" line is in reference to Steely Dan, who had sung about the Eagles in the song Everything You Did. I'll keep an eye out for Hell Freezes Over. Thanks for the tip!

I'll have to dig With Teeth out. Haven't heard it in a while. If you like Linkin Park, you've gotta get Reanimation. Crazy surround mix! If only metal albums could sound as good.

It looks like there are some good recommendations in the metal ear candy thread. Unfortunately, many of the recommendations are long-since OOP and the sellers want crazy prices.
Oh well, I'm a deal hound. Eventually, somebody wants to sell to normal folk and drops the price.

Definitely!

Here's another one that got beat up pretty bad in the poll. I don't think it's as bad as all that. Sure, just like Peace Sells... it could be better, for example more discreet mix and wider dynamics. But... it still rocks IMHO. I like it. Have you had a chance to listen to it? I'd be interested to hear your impression.

Oh , I remember the Staind 5.1 as being so bloody awful I got rid of it -- and I like a bit of head-banging!
(confession: I bought it again once I'd made it my mission to track down every single Warner label DVD-Audio release ever... D'OH! ..but have never played it again since.. now you made me get it out, you rascal..!! )

From a surround point of view I remember the Linkin Park as being pretty good, I just couldn't get into it musically at the time.. ..but thanks to you bringing it up I'll have to resurrect it from its Ikea shelving tomb..!! You guys are gonna give me ear ache with all this head banging music..!! :D

I'll keep my nose to the ground for you buddy!

Beethoven Symphony No.9 - The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen - Pablo Järvi - RCA Red Seal SACD

It seems to justify its 5 star rating. It's the sort of music that would sound one hell of a lot better if I hadn't got neighbours. Some of it was vaguely familiar through having the W. Carlos music for The Clockwork Orange. Some of it was familiar through that wonderful Banco Sabadell Flash Mob video clip on YouTube.

Is it time to get the aspirin out? LOL! :ugham:

It seems they went for simple wrap around effect with surround mix for Staind. Vocals, guitars, etc... are pretty evenly spread around the surrounds. Nothing too discrete or independent going on...except for the Center channel, which does have discrete parts elements. As for the dynamic range, well...it's loud. But...it works with this type of music. (As I mentioned above) I like it, but I certainly wouldn't put this above Gutherie's DSOTM mix. LOL! :couch

Ahhh... Lovely Lovely Ludwig... (or should I say Wendy ;))

And...where have all those record stores gone to?
I guess that discussion is a bit cold & pointless these days. :slap:

Funny, was able to viddy a bit of ACO this weekend. The Wendy Carlos synth work nicely fits the dystopian theme for me, otherwise, I still just can't get into electronic classical.

Ditto! The Ear Candy Metal thread has TONS of information... HEAVY metal, indeed! LOL! :sun I've been biding my time, browsing around and picking up some of those OOP titles at reasonable prices. What's the rush? I mean with all the classic Rock, Prog, and vintage Quad reissues...not to mention all the new Classical surround recordings...we've got so much to choose from.

They had a Kubrick film fest on one of my movie channels a few weeks ago. Always enjoyable!

Electronic classical is a bit tricky, isn't it? I do like Tomita's work, though.

And it's even in QUAD. Yippee!! :51banana:

Just now listening to...

And let's not forget the fabulous pipe organ transcriptions available by artists, such as Hansjörg Albrecht.
