Hi Adam, Brett and Ralphie, it has been hard for me to make it over to QQ as I have lost some interest, as QQ seems so big, but I got your email Ralph, and Merry Christmas to you also. I have aquried a lot of discs since we closed the other site. I have bookmarked this site and I will make a better effort, I have been riding my bike a lot and working got to be streamlined for the little granddaughter, but VG is working so I thought I would have some Jack and Bud Light tonight, also raining in CA so I am super busy at work. Have been having some trouble ripping with my Bluesound Vault but service response is stellar. Anyway If I get my balls together I will start an awesome thread on QQ. But this thread is about what I am listening to and I am listening to Alice Cooper's Muscle Of Love and it is perfect, room filling, very discrete, but not super gimmicky. I never had the disc back in the day and I really dig it man.

Woo Hoo!! Welcome aboard, Markie! :wave

Glad to hear you, Valentine Girl, your granddaughter and your whole family are doing well.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! :party:brew:party

And... PLEASE EMAIL DEREK! We'd love to have him join us here as well.
Thanks a Quadrillion! :51banana:

I LOVED every minute of it, Clint.

I'm now in the process of buying his 2012 Album remasters ALL from the original analogue masters. They really sound incredible for RBCDs. Well worth seeking out.

I just finished the Zappa Roxy Music blu ray and it was very entertaining...I loved it...like a snapshot from the past...the primary thing on this disc is the performance itself...I know some will "whine" because the 5.1 is dolby digital(with the now over used "dullby" terminology)but it works fine in this case...the video is a product of 1973 16mm film shot with mostly 3 cameras(one of which was hand held)...so it's not going to meet current blu ray standards...but it's not horrible...it doesn't look like a worn out VHS tape...but again..this is history of sorts...to be able to have this content that is over 40 years old in this condition is remarkable...considering the source and it's condition...if you like Zappa and would like to see him operating in his prime...this is the ticket..

Yo, Markie!

The QQ Rat Pack (excluding Derek) is almost intact!

It's really like a walk (or bike ride) in the park.

Yeah, with Black Friday and all I've also been buying out the store and have also been revisiting some goodies from the past. You have to get the incredible DTS 5.1 Bachman~Turner Overdrive Not Fragile disc. Played loudly, it's AMAZING! http://www.amazon.com/Not-Fragile-Bachman-Turner-Overdrive/dp/B000007R12

Please email Derek and get him on board.

This really is an incredible site and once you get the hang of it........well, what's NOT to like?

YEAY!!

Welcome! :wave :worthy

Well I've said it before that this place is (while absolutely wonderful in membership conduct and content) slightly daunting in its complexity/granularity with so many site areas to visit.. there's polls and forums for all the surround formats and sub forums for hardware and software both current and vintage and many other variations on themes --

...now I personally don't have a problem with all that having been online a long time and having encountered all sorts of boards and forums of different shapes and sizes.. and I love all the various little pigeonholed sections to explore.. BUT I am a bit weird in this regard (some might say in plenty of other ways too! haha..) and I accept most people prefer simplicity.. so this in-depth approach here could be an initial turn off for some.. but but but persevere my friend and you will be yacking away with the rest of us in every corner of QQ in no time!

Merry Christmas Markie, good to have you here :)

I saw Chris Botti at an outdoor Jazz Festival in West Bend, Wisconsin years and years ago before he became huge...I told my wife then that this guy is going places...he stole the show!

He likes to thank Sting whenever he gets the chance, playing in Sting's band for a couple of years in his late 30s....Botti says Sting enticed him to join by saying:

“[Sting] convinced me to join his band by saying, ‘If you put your career on hold for a couple years, I promise I’ll bring the sound of your trumpet to the whole world.’”

...and so he did :)

Such a slammin' disc. I love playing it loud!

Definitely!

Here's another one that got beat up pretty bad in the poll. I don't think it's as bad as all that. Sure, just like Peace Sells... it could be better, for example more discreet mix and wider dynamics. But... it still rocks IMHO. I like it. Have you had a chance to listen to it? I'd be interested to hear your impression.

Ravel Orchestral Works - Boston Symphony Orchestra, Ozawa (Pentatone Quad SACD)

Wonderful material with exceptional fidelity. One of the most impressive examples I've heard of a surround disc capturing the hall so warmly and organically. Lovely stuff. Thanks Lute!

I'm so glad you like the Ravel. :brew I immediately fell in love with it.

I'm not sure about your taste in classical music, but...

Daniel Chorzempa's cycle of Händel's Organ Concertos is superb. All four volumes can be recommended.

And Rossini - Famous Overtures is a winner, too!

I haven't heard it, though I'd be willing to seek it out for a good price. The "heavies" of my collection, so far are:
Peace Sells
Metallica
Balls to Picasso
Dance of Death
the Opeth heavy stuff
and that's about it. I'd like to find Alice in Chains Greatest Hits at a good price too. Isn't there a hard rock/metal thread around here? There sure ought to be. I like hard rock and metal in surround, but it doesn't tend to be done all that well, so it would be good to be able to identify the ones that are really worth hunting down.

IMO Core, Metallica, Dance of Death and Peace Sells would be on that list. Balls to Picasso is for Bruce die-hards, again IMO.
