Great choice. That is one of my favourite SACD'S, and I find that I use it in rotation alot.
Takes a couple of listens though.I would categorize it as Beat Jazz/Blues/New Age, very moodie sounds I think.

I have 3 other 5.0 Jerry Granelli SACD'S , but none sound as unique as this one.

It's a little out there, but I ended up listening to the whole album straight thru. At first, I was like "What IS this?" The music, dialogue and the excellent discrete mix intrigued me and kept me listening. I'll definitely be playing it again. One just needs to be in the mood.

Olga Martynova (harpsichord) - Everything You Wanted To Know About Harpsichord But Were Afraid To Ask - Caro Mitis 5.1 SACD

I just fancied listening to the Aram Khachaturian & the Johann Baptist Cramer tracks. Olga is a brilliant player - the instrument has gorgeous tone - and the recording is first class.

I am a big fan of both Olga Martynova and Caro Mitis's SACDs.

Igor Tchetuev's cycle of Beethoven's piano sonatas is also superb.

Listening to Rush: Signals that I picked up today on HFPA. Quite happy with the sonics, a step above the Fly By Night HFPA in my opinion. A Farewell To Kings is winging its way here from Amazon, hope it's as good as this one ;)

Bruce Soord - 5.1 from download....he's good man. Really good. Current song is BURIED HERE. I swear, it sounds like some old school Porcupine Tree stuff...just outstanding track! Top notch.

"A Farewell to Kings" is the best of all three of those mentioned IMO.
Many people hate the RUSH 5.1 mixes, and while I certainly think they can be better, I'm glad they were done and released, and better yet, they were released in both High-Res PCM formats, DVDA and Blu-Ray. They will always remain a part of my collection. :)

Tracks 11-16 of this SACD are a surround work of art imho..

(I only wish Sony had done more of the same for the EW&F albums that missed out on surround/Quad mixes from the latter part of the 70's/early 80's)

Yes Yes, on both! Amazing surround mix!
And I'm still loving AF's 4.0 SACD of Open Our Eyes.
Let's hope we continue to see more of E,W&F in surround.

I listened to Gratitude a few weeks ago and likewise was astounded at the brilliance of the songcraft and brilliant SQ.

BTW, Last night I watched in its entirety the 38th Kennedy Center Awards Ceremony live from Washington, DC and I actually stood up at the end and gave the 2 hour show a STANDING OVATION. The highlight was Aretha Franklin honoring Carole King (one of the honorees) by doing an astounding rendition of You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman. Aretha came out on stage decked out in a full length mink (Miss THING:party), sat at the piano and started playing and by the end she threw off the coat and hit those high, high notes:nuke and I thought Carole was going to throw herself off the balcony she was so ecstatic. I'm glad I DVRed it. It's one for the record books.

One of the other honorees was conductor Seiji Ozawa and Yo Yo Ma honored him by playing cello in a beautiful rendition of an excerpt from Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony. Simply stunning. As an aside, who knew that prolific conductor Ozawa was a soccer player (much to his father's dismay).

Other honorees included George Lucas (spectacular tribute), Rita Moreno and Cicley Tyson........ALL equally moving and heartfelt tributes.

I agree... and Xanadu is the best single surround sound experience from all the Rush surround mixes! (Although that's not really saying much)
PS... Bytor and the Snow Dog is pretty excellent as well!

Agreed, but nothing compared to the experience of hearing "Xanadu" live in concert this year on the R40 tour, with both Alex and Geddy playing double-necks!
That experience is properly represented on the new R40 Live Blu-ray disc, which I recommend all RUSH fans check out ASAP! :)

Sounds like one heck of a show. I am still on a 70s Quad groove.

This is a terrific piano trio recording with a naturally ambient surround mix.

The Aaron Neville 5.1 is superb I reckon (it was available in both SACD and DVD-A versions back in the day, which helps a bit with options picking it up now, since its long out of print and not so easy to get these days, it was once plentiful to obtain cheap on SACD at least - the DVD-A was always harder to find - but even the SACD has gone the way of so many of these surround discs, not quite unobtanium but not mega easy either.. its worth the effort and expense imho, Elliot Scheiner takes fairly pedestrian material by the scruff of the neck and gives it a new lease on life in surround).

Right on the money, Adam. Took Aaron Neville's Nature Boy (VERVE MLP 48/96 5.1 Elliot Scheiner remix) out of 'retirement' tonight and played it all the way through. What a gorgeous disc. Scheiner created a subtle yet enveloping soundstage and the orchestrations and vocals were superb..........channeling Johnny Mathis at times. VERY Highly Recommended if you can find it at a decent price.
