You're a funkmeister after my heart, Adam. I totally agree! :spot

DJ Ralphie's Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel & The Furious Five (DVD-A) arrived today.
Just spinning it now. I want to say "Natsukashi~i!!!" In Japanese. It means something like "Man, This brings back the memories!!" Classic early 80s funk/rap. I love the scratching. I remember how Herbie Hancock's Rockit was on the radio everyday back then. LOL!!! This DVD-A's surround mix is pretty good. The surrounds are active with discrete parts.

And to complete your "Natsukashi" musical journey, Bro Brett, 'DJ Ralphie' also highly recommends The Best of the Sugarhill Gang DVD~A 5.1. http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-best-of-sugarhill-gang-rhino-mw0000188298

Admittedly, the DVD~A is scarce these days and is currently unavailable at both Amazon US & UK! Bummer.:nuke
Another Warner/Rhino reissue released on the Silverline label.

Thanks for the groovy recommendation, Sugar! I'll keep a look out for a deal on that one.

It's time to put on my Classicist Cap and start mourning Pierre Boulez. I wonder if Adam has any of those Quad LPs of his. I am trying to find a complete list. Anyway, the Ravel SACD will do nicely.

Hey Clint! It's only $49.95. What a bargain! :couch

Listening the Hand Cannot...by Steven Wilson. I listen to Ita lot in the car but to hear it again in 5.1 is sublime and really quite different... I just received the 2 cd 1 dvd version of Anesthetize yesterday so will be putting the CDs on my ipod for daily listening... I do love PT live...

I have picked up quite a few Classical SQ LPs in the last few months but not gone thru them all yet.. and now you reminded me I do have all the Sony Classical Quad>SACD titles they released back in the day I'm sure there's some Boulez in there? I'll check in a bit.

You are killing me...geeze...I wouldn't pay $49.95 for the entire Silverline portfolio.. even if you threw in a swivel chair from the corporate office...I know they made some good releases...in fact I have a Blues Traveler disc that is pretty good...BUT..it's hard to erase the stigma of the FROM THE FRONT ROW discs they issued..ugh...talk about absolute trash...like one member on here stated...they should have called that series FROM THE PARKING LOT...we all have our demons...and Silverline is at the top of my list..now don't get me started because as we all know by now I have had 2 rants in less than a week and I'm sure my buddy wavelength is concerned about me...so no more all caps statements on this post:)..so lets all hold hands and sing a couple of verses of...We are the world...we are the children"(I would normally have posted that video...but I'm trying to conserve server space)...

So please enjoy that marvelous Silverline release:bounce17

Now WAAAAIT A MINUTE! (Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah) You've been so good to me!
You know you make me wanna

SHOUT!

(Well since we can't post video clips anymore, here's the link...https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MG7KCOO76Wc)

The $49.95 disc I was refering to was a Mch Sony SACD. Its surround mix is legit...http://www.amazon.com/Boulez-Conduc...F8&qid=1452087032&sr=8-8&keywords=SACD+Boulez

What a steal!!!

What a steal!!!

Isn't that one of the Columbia Quads Sony mucked around with the channels on for the SACD?

I know they royally mucked up the Boulez Conducts Bartok SACD, the producer who redid it for 5.1 SACD thought the old Quad was too discrete or something, the ******* *****..

There were no shortage of those types back in the quad 70's.I used to get so pissed off reading critiques of quad reviews of classical (mostly) but also some popular, rock discs where some *****, some anti-surround sound critic advocated and influenced labels to issue quads in ambience only!!!

These four releases are in my regular rotation, as is Sluggo! 20160101_200935.jpg

Ray Charles-Genius Loves Company Monster Disc......it's a real shame that this wasn't given more thought...Ray's voice is toast and to make things worse they chose songs that exposed his weak voice...if this would have the other artists on here doing all the singing it would have been great...the sound quality is superb...and one of the contributions really surprised me..it came from an unexpected source.....the song...It Was A Very Good Year...the artist Willie Nelson...I didn't see that one coming...he did a nice job...for $5 it was well worth it to hear the other artists..it's just too bad that Ray's weak voice was utilized in this manner...kind of painful to listen to in several spots..

Very sorry to hear that. I haven't auditioned mine yet. :(
It may be redemptive, have you not already, to spin the George Benson disc. I think it's awesome and he sounds and plays great.

I'm sure that one will be excellent,.,.I have the other Benson monster disc with Al Jarreau...and like I said in my post...with the exception of Ray's voice it's an excellent disc...

That's the one I'm talking about...I have it AND the Jarreau/Benson disc...

I haven't heard the Benson/Jarreau disc yet, but I hope to soon. I can vouch 100% for Songs and Stories. I was VERY impressed.
For these music production groups that are setting about to record a great artist with state-of-the-art signal flow, from mic to sound system, this is the way to do it.
Great songs, great performance, great fidelity, great mix.
I wish I could say the same for the AIX package I recently picked up: Paul Williams. Though I enjoy and feel it's worth having, it's the same as what CE is reporting for the Ray Charles Superdisc: rough vocally.

..and listening to now in surround.. ;)

Seal - IV (DVD-A)

I don't listen to this one enough (I was burnt out playing the redbook to absolute death when the album first came out.. and probably didn't get enough mileage out of the surround on this one over the years.. but boy oh boy is this stunning in 5.1..! :yikes )

"I have something,
Do you something?
Cos I have something for you..
WE'VE GOT TO KEEP THIS WORLD TOGETHER..!!!
Got to keep it moving straight,
Love like we live forever
So the people can relate..."

The lyrics don't mean jack ****.. but I love it all the same! :D
