I just received my "stash" of Dutton Vocalion QUAD SACDs in the mail today from the UK and just spun the Floyd Cramer Two Fer 'Young & The Restless' and 'Super Country Hits.' Hee Haw:sun

Normally, this is NOT my cup o' tea but what I was struck by was the absolute pristine quality of the original analogue QUAD masters. VERY minute background hiss (almost inaudible) and the surround mix was VERY tasteful and one aspect which really struck me was HOW in HELL did RCA ever expect to extract this level of pristine sound quality utilizing a CD~4 cartridge/demodulator and the crappy dynaflex vinyl they were using at the time.

Ray Dutton who did these transfers must've used a state of the art A>D decoder and based on just this one disc, I also opted to purchase three more QUAD SACDs direct from Vocalion (including the Perry Como two~fer and John Wilson & His Orchestra and the Peter Cater Big Band 'The Right Time.'

I am literally 'wowed' by this disc and am hoping and praying (I'm NOT religious) that they continue to mine the RCA/SONY vaults for MORE QUAD material of this caliber.

José Feliciano two~fers would be GREAT and some Harry Nilsson...also fine......but I don't know if Dutton Vocalion, which, based on their 2016 catalogue of mostly easy listening music, would bother releasing Rock 'n Roll QUADs. But I wouldn't mind some Paul Mauriat (Love Is Blue) two~fers from the Philips pop label if they're handed to me on a hybrid gold mch SACD platter! Also included in their catalogue are a number of London Phase Four artists.....Ronnie Aldrich, Ted Heath, Edmundo Ros, Stanley Black, etc. which, collectively, had quite a few QUAD Open Reel releases......back in the day. How about some Chet Atkins.....why not?

PLEEZE Dutton Vocalion........Can I have some MORE?:bounce17

I just got this disc in the mail yesterday and I did not hold much hope for it having great surround sound. I was shocked. It is great. Some songs have no surround and some are spectacular such as It's All About the Pentiums. The fidelity is great, the songs are spectacular and the writing is top notch. Every song is a masterpiece.

There is no way I could single out one cut on this album, they are all masterpieces. I saw Al in concert a few months ago and he exceeded my expectations. I bought my copy for 92 cents used on Amazon. With shipping it was well under $5. I can't imagine a better surround sound bargain.

I saw Al in 1986 opening for the Monkees, and again in 1996 on the Bad Hair Day tour. Both times he and his band were amazing.

What I'm listening to right now is hard to describe...I think Spock would say it's "fascinating"...its the most recent purchase I have made...first time listening to it and it puts a smile on my face...it's 2 compilation SACD's with 1950's music...now my Oppo and my Denon receiver are telling me it's 5.1..but not much else...now it's not technically discreet with different sound coming out of every speaker...but all the speakers are in use...more than just bleed from the fronts...it's more like big stereo...but much better and the clarity of these vintage songs is pretty amazing..it has that warm vinyl sound...now I've only scratched the surface so far...I'm on song 9 of 25 on disc 1...and another disc of 25 more...but so far it's WAY COOL...it's not quite the fidelity and warmth of the Nat King Cole Story double SACD set...which I consider the gold standard in quality for vintage recordings on SACD....but it's very very good..SO FAR...the vocals are prominent and crystal clear...since I'm not familiar with most of these songs it's really got my attention..

If you are someone that loves 50's music from various artists of that period I would strongly recommend this set...it's not really surround music...just WIDE stereo...but it sounds so clear and open...I doubt this music ever sounded this good "back in the day"...scroll down and check out the artists and songs HERE

Hehe.. love it ;)

While not a commonly held view I prefer Live It Up to 3+3..

You're a funkmeister after my heart, Adam. I totally agree! :spot

DJ Ralphie's Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel & The Furious Five (DVD-A) arrived today.
Just spinning it now. I want to say "Natsukashi~i!!!" In Japanese. It means something like "Man, This brings back the memories!!" Classic early 80s funk/rap. I love the scratching. I remember how Herbie Hancock's Rockit was on the radio everyday back then. LOL!!! This DVD-A's surround mix is pretty good. The surrounds are active with discrete parts.

Oh man!! I need some Midnight Star in surround.
