Phil just said recently that his favorite Genesis songs are both on this album, "No Son of Mine" and "Driving the Last Spike". :)

I read that too. Love Driving The Last Spike, it's long and has such a great change of pace. Also have a strong liking of Hold On My Heart, great lyrics about a man having a conversation with his heart...though this is a Genesis album, Hold On reminds so much of Phil's solo ballads :) I find this SACD is a bit boomy though, if I'm going to listen all the way through I have to trim the subs a bit.

Unfortunately...that's the rub with a lot of Genesis/Phil Collins music...the sound quality doesn't live up to the content...

That is a great example of Genesis doing what Genesis do best together. The music is basically Tony's, but because he's worked with Phil for so long, he naturally came up with the chords and a sequence that would work well under Phil's voice. Phil AFAIK took care of the actual melody & lyrics, and it's a great example of building on simplicity and space to create something extraordinary, no matter how ordinary it may seem on the surface. I agree. It's definitely one of my favorites on the whole album too! :)

Paging Steven Wilson....

Nice try, but I wish people would stop requesting for Steven Wilson to remix Genesis and Phil Collins' music. Apart from some of the earlier Genesis stuff with Peter and Steve, he's not a Genesis fan, and he's certainly not a fan of Phil's solo music either. Best to just let him get on with his own music and remixing other music that he is passionate about cause that's what will benefit all of us the most. :)

Anyway, after reading all of these Genesis-related posts, I was listening to selections from "We Can't Dance", but I changed course, and I'm now on "Foxtrot" instead, one of the absolute best! :)

I love Duke and Shapes.
I really like Foxtrot, but it feels kinda dated, as does most of the PG-era stuff to me.
Is it true that Supper's Ready is an upmix or that they had to redo some effects or something? Can't remember what I read, but I heard they had problems with SR.
That is an ultimate prog track, right there...

"Supper's Ready" is definitely not an upmix. As a matter of fact, the only Genesis track from their entire catalogue that had to be upmixed for these reissues was "Say It's Alright, Joe" on "And Then There Were Three". Everything else is a discrete mix, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had to recreate various effects for tracks like "Supper's Ready" and other songs. Sometimes those effects weren't recorded onto the multitrack, so they only existed on stereo mixes and masters making it necessary for anyone remixing it to recreate certain effects as best as they can.
I'm on "Can-Utility and the Coastliners" right now, but "Supper's Ready" is not far behind! :)

Supper's Ready wasn't recorded in one go, sections were recorded and spliced together. IIRC one section was slightly out of tune with the rest and they took the opportunity to fix that when they did the remixes. Might have been mentioned in the remix DVD band interview.

I think I'll tickle my ears and mind with some T Rex.

Sure would be a treat if "Tony Visconti" remixed more:D

Clint, I watched the first two episodes of X~Files (part of a 6 episode arc) and to be totally honest........No BIG deal! Actually, I was very disppointed. I really think Hannibal in which Gillian Anderson co~starred [as Hannibal Lecter's psychiatrist/confidante/lover] was superior on every conceivable level. Perhaps the remaining four episodes will redeem the lackluster two previous ones (Roswell, again: REALLY?)

Seems more awkward than enterprising to me.

The hot new show was/is Mr. Robot. Binge watched the complete first season on FX. Rami Malek is brilliant and Christian Slater won a much deserved Golden Globe.

The truth IS Out there! Somewhere.

No worries, and I definitely wasn't trying to chide you. I'm just tired of the requests for Genesis, particularly when I see it on SW's Remixes Facebook page. The last guy on there who requested it really annoyed me when he asked that SW REMASTER the Genesis catalogue, this on a page that clearly says REMIXES on it. But I digress…
The remixes we have now certainly aren't perfect, but they are better than none at all, and now SW can focus on remixing other albums instead. :)

I still have yet to receive my "Blow by Blow" SACD, but it's technically Quad, not 5.1, unless they created 'fake' center and LFE channels to make it a 5.1 disc. Can anyone confirm if they did that for this disc or not? (Not that it matters to me. I'm sure I'll enjoy it either way.) :)
