Ryan, your parents must be young. [emoji16] Mine are in 80's

True. They are both in their mid to late 50s, which makes sense as I'm one of the youngest members of the forum at the ripe old age of 26, so if all goes well, I should have lots of life left to continue enjoying this surround stuff. ;)

No, I haven't bought the new one yet [Jeff Beck: Blow by Blow]. This is the 2003(?!) European Hybrid SACD that I bought new a few months ago. :)

Ryan, the other night I played my original SONY single layered BBB and switched the polarity on my Meridian pre/pro and the rears which were out of phase suddenly FULLY kicked in. Naturally, the fronts which were CORRECTLY in phase sounded rather anemic.

Am REALLY looking forward to the CORRECTED AP mch SACD of BBB.

Taking a break after som intense Halo gaming (in surround, of course) with some favourite PT:

:yikes

Was there something wrong with the Quad on the SACD?
I only caught some stuff about the Mono being screwed up!?

AFAIK, there's no issues with the Quad mix on any of the SACD copies, but I just didn't want to open up and play my copy until I got the replacement disc, cause unlike a lot of members on here, I actually care about having the corrected mono mix. Sly's music and recordings are made for mono. The extreme separation on both the stereo and Quad mixes are a gimmick, but these mixes don't hold up that well today compared to so many other mixes. What still holds up today is the phenomenal music that Sly and the Family Stone created, and the music is the real reason why it's worth having on SACD. :)

Umm.. Ok.. Thanks! (I think!? :D )

I am currently watching and listening to Magical Mystery Tour. The surround on A Hard Day's Night sucks. On Help the songs are done in excellent surround but the movie is totally mono. MMT has awesome surround sound for both the songs and the movie dialogue.

After David Gilmour's performance on Jimmy Kimmel last night, I'm revisiting "Rattle That Lock" right now. Not much has changed. It's still one of my favorite new surround discs released last year. I'm particularly enjoying the songs I'm on now, "Dancing Right In Front Of Me" and "In Any Tongue". :)

Azteca (Quad)

Wonderful surround and musically fabulous.. makes me think of Quad Linda (since she recommended the album to me in the first place).. don't see much of her round here lately.. hope she is doing ok :upthumb

Great minds think alike Mon Kap! ;)
Azteca would be a great Quad for AF to get out on their Surround SACD platform, I reckon (especially seeing as their hands are tied wrt Santana's Quads, the amazing Azteca would be some consolation.. ..).

Worth mentioning (although so far no-one's given a **** about my SQ>Surround Master conversion that's out there!) I was listening to the 'El Vuelo Del Alcatraz' Quad just before Azteca.. and though its a different beast I enjoyed the funky vibe almost as much.. ah, well..

I'd say its :banana::upthumb:cool:

Thanks Duncan! You're a pal :)

tbh I took a bit of a leap of faith on Alcatraz.. knowing nothing about the band is one thing we're all kinda used to with this surround caper.. and it was expensive, which is par for the course with the rarer/more obscure stuff we all buy of course.. but the more scary proposition was I couldn't find anyone ever mentioning the Quad online, let alone that anyone had done a conversion and shared it.. ah well, glad you enjoyed it anyway
