Yevgeny Sudbin - Osmo Vanska - Minnesota Orchestra - Beethoven 3 & Mozart 24 piano concertos - SACD 5.0

Excellent choice, EB.

I was listening to the excellent TELARC PURE DSD mch Turina Danzas Fantasticas, Sinfonia Sevillana, La Procesion del Rocio and the Debussy Iberia from "Images" conducted by Jesús López~Cobos conducting the Ciincinnati Symphony Orchesta today. http://hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=196 And if you're a Sibelius Fan, EB, this set of his COMPLETE symphonies is really ONE OF THE VERY BEST http://hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=11014

Mason Bates: Works For Orchestra w/San Francisco Symphony conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas. 5.1 SACD

mb.jpg

Discrete live recording which incorporates tasteful electronica flourishes into Copland like symphonic composition performed by one of the top orchestras in the world. An excellent recording in of itself. Tremendous dynamic range with effective use of the sub channel. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the hearty recommendation, Elmer. I was very curious about this recording and your mini review regarding its Coplandesque bent convinced me to purchase it. I'm a huge MTT/SFS fan and all of their recordings are marvelous.

Just finished listening to three completely different items...

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (both tracks) - quadraphonic - EMI Blu-ray - loud
Sibelius - Valse Triste & Intermezzo from Karelia - Colin Davis - Boston Symphony Orchestra - Pentatone RQR SACD - bloody loud
Fleetwood Mac - Never Going Back Again, Don't Stop & You Make Loving Fun - Warner Bros SACD - not quite so loud

Hard to compare with the Rainbow concert - I like them both very much. It's so great to see this band live in the 70's. The picture quality on this Blu Ray are only SD.

I think it's great sounding - even a few moments with some action in the rears - Brian Mays guitar.

And of course - Freddie ends up in shorts in the end :)

A couple of night ago:
PF- WYWH Quad mix (the lossy disc! I'd forgotten where I put the BD...but I found it ...way too late!!)

Last night:

Talking Heads- Stop Making Sense BD (the REAL surround mix),,,I played the cassette to DEATH when it came out...Great stuff...they could definitely groove...but there ain't no soul in it...btw, the movie is way ahead of its time...also noticed that the SOUNDTRACK was rerecorded BIG TIME since 99% of the vocals and 50% of the drums are not what it's being shown...I know they shot this at least twice....

In case you missed my other post...15% discount promo code at Deepdiscount...code is NOJOKE...good until Monday..

DANG, Clint. I just placed a large order with them (@ 10% off). Those who haven't purchased the AF Dylan Bootleg Disc can NOW get it for $37.47 (w/free shipping). Time to stock up on those Hong Kong SACDs (even though they don't have ALL titles listed, as of yet). Example: The BEST of Santana NOW $26.36 [almost 80 minutes of music]. AF's upcoming EW&F Head to the Sky has also JUST been reduced to $23.99 (and w/15% off: $20.39....also a GREAT price).

These prices also apply to RBCDs, DVDs and Blu Ray discs, as well.

As I type this, I am listening to the extraordinary MLP DVD~A 5.1 of BB King/Eric Clapton RIDING WITH THE KING. AF missed the boat when they didn't include this exceptionally well recorded MCH layer to their recent Stereo only remaster.
