Well, better than a "pass it through your head twice" pils, I guess...

I was doing some surround comparison listening to these two "Bob Dylans"...

-and I just gotta say that Another Side of Bob Dylan is not as good as Live 64 !!

ambience + for Live 64 but 3ch front with low ambience on Another Side. That's really something when a live disc bests a studio mix !??

(You'd think the opposite should be the result, but no way)

I only have one Dylan surround: Love and Theft. Man it's lousy surround; honestly I didn't even try to figure out the reasons; it's just not a ball-grabber at all - no thrill on the hill as they say or maybe they didn't but I'll say it now. The thing is, musically I enjoy a number of the songs; just wish they surrounded better.

If you enjoy Blood on the Tracks, the Multichannel mix will floor you. This disc has it all. Splendid songs, superb fidelity and a fab mix. Get it now before the prices get too crazy. :)

Well what did you honestly expect for the surround mix of "Another Side of Bob Dylan"? The entire album is basically nothing more than live in-studio performances from Dylan utilizing just a guitar and a harmonica. I would bet that the vast majority of those recordings were made using just two microphones.
Heck you can't even create a great stereo mix out of that, let alone a surround mix, so I still have no idea why they even bothered.

To everyone else, unless you're really a big fan of pre-electric Dylan (and I'm not), then that disc definitely is not for you.
(But "Bringin' It All Back Home", "Blonde On Blonde", "Blood on the Tracks", and "Slow Train Coming" are all worth it IMHO!) :)

I'm a little surprised I don't have that title. Is it any good? Is it typical Paul Simon or not so much? How is the mix?

I like the mix on this and find it unique in that it's closer to a quad mix I think. The center channel is not that dominant and at times is absent but in no way does it diminish the overall surround experience.(y)

I enjoyed the album on CD back in the day, but I didn't grow up with Paul Simon. I think long-time fans consider the album weak compared to his classic stuff.
It has some anger and hurt. Some grit. It has several very strong songs that I still remember, though I haven't heard them in many years.

I bought that one back in March...only played it once...the fidelity is good...surround isn't very aggressive(as much as I remember only having played it one time)...when I heard this one I felt the same way as when I played the Luther Vandross "Dance with my father" disc...although it sounded good I wished he would have done the songs I love...Luther was big for me "back in the day"...he had some killer songs...but like the Paul Simon disc.....the songs I love aren't on it:(

When I want to hear Paul Simon...I have the 1982 CD...THIS ONE...the right CD is hard to find...there are other versions that don't sound as good...you need to match that barcode number...catalog number..and year of release....if I still had my laser disc player I would grab this one

There is also a DVD version of that concert...it doesn't have surround so I stayed with the CD...here it is

GOS, it seems I'm a little late to the review party going on here. ;) Everyone has done such a nice, thorough job reviewing this one. (Much better than I could at least.) But, here's my take... if you're a fan of Paul Simon, you should have this. This surround mix isn't outrageously good, but it works well with the music. I completely agree with fizzywiggs...very Quad (4-channel) sounding. Even if it's not his best material, the music still has plenty of Simon's ethnically inspired, mellow grooves. His voice is in good, natural form. Keep an eye out for one at a decent price. It might not be everyday listening material, but I enjoy playing it every now and then.

That's certainly a fair description...you do get the Paul Simon "sound"...just not in familiar songs...it's one that you might like more as time goes by..I only played it once and I certainly wasn't unhappy with it...it just made me think of his other high profile songs..
