Yep..me too...that's what I miss about LP album covers..all the art work...

I always regretted getting rid of my LP at the start of the CD age. Last year I found a beautiful copy with all the inserts (even the fan club flier!) at a Memphis record store. A happy day indeed.

There certainly is a great deal of nostalgia associated with the LP portion of my life...despite all the disc fluid..brushes and accessories you bought...there was magic that went with it...of course the added dimension of separating the "seeds from the stems(buds)by the mere application of gravity...slightly titling that album cover and the seeds came rolling down the album cover like a soap box derby car..."those were the days my friends we thought they'd never end"

Listening to Geese and Ghost and Hand.Cannot.Erase over past week put prior to that had fun going through all the Rem's and not sure why I felt disappointed on these when I first bought them.
Much more enjoyable and started with Document and worked through all albums and finished with Around the Sun.
I was listening to these albums in the car.
There are some really good surround moments on these albums a few songs have some swirling effects when it makes sense.
"Automatic for the People" is still one of my fav's by Rem and I remember when Monster came out, it was all distorted guitars and more grungy sound and I didn't think it was that strong a album but this time going through it really enjoyed it.
Any other fan's of Rem in surround, maybe give them another listen, there's some good stuff and glad ES worked on these.

Funny you should mention REM...I bought Reveal lately for a delivered price of $6.58!...I've only played it a few times but it's not bad...it was used in very good condition and the disc itself is perfect...

Hand. Cannot. Erase again...

This one gets better for me with each listen - I'll even cast a vote in the poll soon too!

They do? Guess I don't feel the same.....There is very little...if any newer music that makes me feel like the older music does. I realize that's just my preference. OK - love Steve Wilson....Porcupine Trees...but other than that....
You are far more open-minded that that, sir. It is just that FINDING the recent stuff that is good is SO much more difficult. In the age of information, the irony is that we have a lot more chaffe for the same amount of wheat, and now sorting through it is our own problem.

There are a ton of fantastic bands and musicians out there - more than were around in the 60's and 70's. Just think about it per-capita. But FINDING them is SO much harder now.

I hear YOU as well. :D

Speaking of Mahler in surround, this M8 by Stenz is a must for Mahler/Surround fans. Stenz's whole Mahler cycle offers excellent sound, but this one is particularly immersive. The rear channels are discrete and really help open this massive work's soundstage.

Very Highly Recommended!

One day I'd dearly love for us all here to pool our knowledge and compile a comprehensive QQ list of Classical discs with discrete surround... Brett, over to you! :)
