Luciano Pavarotti: Ti Adoro Decca/multichannel SACD

Especially thrilling is the last cut "Caruso" with a guitar solo by Jeff Beck....one of those Mama Mia moments!*

Great use of discrete surrounds, as well.

[*I wonder if there was a Papa Mia]?

Thanks for the reminder, Ralph! :upthumb

Always loved that disc in surround, not spun it for yonks

..je ne sais pas, mais en français.. longtemps, peut être..?

"I don't know but maybe in French: A Long Time"

Or perhaps, YONKS translates in Yankee English to :yikes

As in :yikes, haven't heard the bloody thing in a long time?

BTW, Amazon JUST delivered my Bill Mize DTS~RBCD 'Coastin' via DRONE ..........well, not really, as the 'drone' had two legs....and a pe*is!

That's "Yoinks!" :p Got it in one, as the caddie said to the golfer ;)

Ah, they'll never better the human drone (bzzzzzzzzzz... hmmmmmmmmmm.... etccccccc......) :ugham:

It's very 1975. I like it.

I'm glad you like it. I also enjoy it quite a lot. What a deal that was for a sealed copy. :)

Good deals are great! I think this was my first sealed dts cd copy - well it's not sealed anymore :)

Very nice album, I will play this a lot, never heard it before.

You're welcome everyone ;)
Love,
Fredgar

(Ps. There's a reason I will NOT stop going on about the wonders of that Jasmine Nightdreams DTS CD.. forget some of its 1975 "charm" for a minute, ok some of the tunes are pretty terrible, not just that they haven't weathered the interim 41 years too well, I doubt some were that well-received back in the day.. but there is still a lot of solid material and most importantly above all for all of us here at QQ, the Quad mix on it really is, from a surround point of view, nothing short of sensational.. you could use those last three tracks that form one lovely long instrumental suite as a surround speaker setup test.. super active surround mixing and an astonishingly bold use of surround, yet still highly musical and appropriate to the music itself. All just imho, of course.. )

(PPs. No other way for Edgar W to arrive than by spaceship, the guy is a visionary loonie probably most likely from another dimension.. sheer musical talent must ooze from his pores..)

Received another disc today - ordered it after seeing Fred and Kapt writing about it in another thread:

A nice collection of Latin/pop songs, it's only 448 kbps DD, but sounds great, with good surround.

Oh you've got the Kap to thank solely for that one Mr.Spock, i can't take any credit! :D

Another first for me. Apart from having heard a brief excerpt of The Hebrides in a Monty Python sketch from the early 70's, I knew nothing of Mendelssohn's music. I'm really enjoying this disc a lot. Volume 2 of this series will eventually be added to my collection. This is also my first Chandos disc and I must say that the sound quality of the recording is phenomenal. Wonderful, warm & full 5.0 mix!

Is she happy to see me, or is that a lemon she's sucking on? lmao...sorry. :):)

I actually tried it with/without bass management, in 'Direct' mode, 'Pure' mode, in DTS-MA 6.1 processing, and PLIIx 7.1 processing, and with/without Audyssey too. I do have somewhat smallish surrounds though. My setup is a 7.1 dedicated home theater room with two subwoofers that also doubles as my music listening room. My four surrounds are only rated down to 60hz so I have them crossed over/bass managed at 70hz to be on the safe side. My fronts L-C-R go down to about 40hz, but I have them crossed over/bass managed at 70hz also. The Chicago quads do sound very good on my setup, I think the main thing I was saying is that I just prefer the more modern 5.1 mixes of II and V, although the quads do seem to have better overall discreteness. It's nice to actually have options on things like this, and I will be listening to both versions at different times, as I like different things about both versions. :)

My setup is more like quad with four full range channels, one in each corner. I prefer the quad mix by far. Like you, the more multichannel mixes the better. Not all systems and tastes are the same. Thanks.
