"Thank you very much" :worthy

How Surround-y is it, Spock? :smokin

It is not bad - there is enough coming from the rears to make it a nice surround listen.

I saw it on tv in -73, fantastic!

I prefer to watch the NBC tv-special version - with the dated "special-effects" :)

Edit: Well, with the dsp turned off - there was not much coming from the rears :)

DSP..??

= Don't Spock Please...!!

:yikes

;)

:ugham:

etc.

It was the DSU (Dolby Surround Upscale - turning 5.1 to 7.1.4) i turned off on the AVP (Audio Video Prossessor).

Sometimes I forget, you know - old-timer and all that :)

OMG! :yikes

NP! :upthumb

Thats an intriguing thing.. you're running 4 subs in a 7.1 config..!

BOOM BOOM SHAKE SHAKE DA ROOM..! :D

No I am running 7 subs, 4 center speakers and one rear! Sounds great, it's the Vulcan way!

Now I am listening to Genesis: Live at Wembley Stadium, dvd. It is a much better surround on this than the Hawaiian one. But Elvis is much cooler than Phil.

Now remembering to go "Straight" - to check out the discreteness first :) Before comment on the quality of the surround!

HA! 7.4.1 is not logical enough Mr. Spock, strictly speaking your speaker config should be described thus:

5.7 channel

Ah yes, always a good idea to "play it straight and play it true my brother.." otherwise you end up "miles and miles from anywhere.."

(name that tune...!! Ps. its in surround.. straight surround.. ;) )

Words of wisdom stand in line in this fine thread!

Now for some Poco:

One of my favourite bands - I believe their album Ghost Town is my most played cd ever.

This concert dvd is discrete!

That is the good news, the bad, is that there is a crappy 4:3 picture, and a 256 kbps 5.1 DD soundtrack.

Ooh...! :yikes

Looks great! Didn't know of this DVD's existence, thanks for the tip off! (onto the shopping list it goes..) :upthumb

Now.. I failed with Reo Speedwagon.. but I might as well try again with this lot.. you have heard all the Poco Quads, yes Mr. Spock?
(Deliverin', Crazy Eyes, Seven, Cantamos)

I can't recommend the dvd, it does not look or sound ok. The surround mix is weird.

I have heard the Crazy Eyes album in surround - it is great! Magnolia is played on the concert dvd.

Now if you can present a copy of their Ghost Town album in surround, 7.1.4 Atmos, mixed by E.S. on Blu Ray - I am very interested!!!!

Oh ok, I won't bother with that DVD then! ;)

Haha.. I'm not sure if I could present any Poco in 7.1.4 (mainly because no Poco exists in 7.1.4.. afaik!?) but also because your Vulcan version of 7.1.4 doesn't exist as a recognised setup (that I am aware of anyway..)

7.1.4 is a variant of Dolby Atmos, afaik..

(comprising 7 speakers, 1 subwoofer and 4 Atmos enabled speakers)

One such layout of 7.1.4 is depicted here;

Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 Setup

I believe you are right - it would say 7.1 Atmos, or 5.1 Atmos? I don't know, I have only a few movies with Atmos.

I use 7.1.4 here on Vulcan, and use dsp to engage all speakers when listen to music.

Oh I'm sure I know much less about it than you do, I've never even heard Atmos in action! (I think bmoura has?) I wouldn't be able to accommodate all those speakers you need in the first place in my shoebox anyway.. so unless I win the lottery and get a new pad like one off Lifestyles Of The Rich and Famous, Atmos is seemingly off the table chez moi!

Just as well you're not trying any of the SQ decodes to Quad in that arrangement on Vulcan btw.. that DSP soundfield altering stuff buggers them up, Spock! :yikes

What I mean is, from playing around with my own SQ conversions they have to be played back "as is" in the exact 4.0 config with the 4 speakers in a square (and in particular with the rears setup properly so they can do their cancelling out in the centre back thing, staying put in the dreaded "sweet spot", or they just sound iffy with vocals even more diffuse and all over the place than ever!) in my humble experience anyway! :D

Ahh.. beer helps! :beer2
