I have all the surround albums from Nick & Bad Seeds and love all of them. Play them pretty often - I need to visit Nick's dark world form time to time. I think all the albums hold high qulity - and the fidelty and surround are very good.

Earlier (before getting hooked on surround) I use to play a lot of Tom Waits - so Nick and his band are a kind of substitute. 2 channel music does not work anymore, even with some kind of dsp engaged. I hoped it would change - but it seems to get worse - I just keep thinking about how good it would sound in surround...

Really enjoyed III but after switching to V on the BD quad for the first song, then switching to the DVD-A 5.1, I was really amazed at how much more expansive, with clearer vocals, and much deeper bass I got from the 5.1. I think V is even more drastically better on the 5.1 compared to the quad than II was, for my tastes. On "A Hit by Varèse" the bass practically growls, but in a nice clean way. :)

Bass management and smallish rears?

The Strat Pack - Stratocaster's 50th anniversary on BD-V in 5.1 Some great acts here, but I bought it to hear David Gilmour play Marooned, Coming Back To Life, and Sorrow live. (y)

Excellent sound quality and surround mix on this one:

Pink Floyd - The Dark Side of The Moon, Quad Mix (Blu-Ray)

I love that this disc features the music from my favourite banana advertisement ever. :D

It's really why people bought the album you know. Now be honest, don't you feel like having a banana right about now?

Simon, I had never seen the advertisements and I can't stop laughing! I my pneumonia gets worse it's because of you! How did the Floyd let their music be used for this! It's even worse than the last Granchester Meadows promo!
If you feel it, peel it! Hahahahaha

Coughing helps you get rid of the bad stuff. :D

Now have a banana. :)

I've had this for more than a month but I've only just put it on. BAM! This album is amazing!

Musically, it's a laid back blend of Röyksopp, Blonde Redhead and Björk. Beautiful electronic textures with male and female vocals. The DTS Quad mix is phenomenal! You owe it to yourself to get this bad boy NOW!

It's a good one, and it's really a shame he hasn't done any more surround mixes. The funny thing about it is that I really don't care for the music when listening to it in stereo. It does nothing for me. But, holy crap, listening to the surround is a COMPLETELY different experience to me. Musically, it feels like like an entirely different album to me when listening to it in surround. Glad to see more people coming around to this one. Definitely deserves more recognition around here :music

A change of mood fitting with today's weather. Another 5.0 Home Run from BIS records. Giddy up!

Andrew Litton & Colorado Symphony - Aaron Copland: Billy the Kid and Rodeo (complete ballet scores); An Outdoor Overture; El Salón México (SACD)

First spin of this RCA Living Stereo popular title. The fidelity is stunning!

Ironically, Simon, this is the ONE title I duplicated by purchasing the Analogue Productions SACD remaster and I really have to say, as good as the original SONY SACD is.......the AP remaster surpasses it.

I LOVE this album. The sonics are truly to die for......well, I wouldn't go THAT far!

Oh I believe you. :)

Not tell me if I'm wrong but AP's mastering on those discs is just for the Stereo content correct? They leave the 3.0 as is? That was my understanding of it.

I'm not sure. Unless there was a problem with the original 3.0 remaster, I'm confident it's probably the original SONY 3.0. BTW, I play it in stereo on my MAIN System which consists of 4.2 Full Range Speakers so I did hear both the stereo SONY and AP remasters for comparison. Luscious sonics, for sure. The SONY is NO slouch but the AP is a notch above.

Not that this may be of interest to you, Simon, but I was VERY disappointed with the AP Peter Gunn (Henry Mancini) Living Stereo SACD. Very noisy, IMO. Sounds like they did NOT access the absolute original Master Tapes for this remaster......unless they were 'worn out' as it was a very popular title at the time of its original release.

Bass management and smallish rears?

I actually tried it with/without bass management, in 'Direct' mode, 'Pure' mode, in DTS-MA 6.1 processing, and PLIIx 7.1 processing, and with/without Audyssey too. I do have somewhat smallish surrounds though. My setup is a 7.1 dedicated home theater room with two subwoofers that also doubles as my music listening room. My four surrounds are only rated down to 60hz so I have them crossed over/bass managed at 70hz to be on the safe side. My fronts L-C-R go down to about 40hz, but I have them crossed over/bass managed at 70hz also. The Chicago quads do sound very good on my setup, I think the main thing I was saying is that I just prefer the more modern 5.1 mixes of II and V, although the quads do seem to have better overall discreteness. It's nice to actually have options on things like this, and I will be listening to both versions at different times, as I like different things about both versions. :)
