Adam, BIRTHDAY hangovers will do that to you.........

Life in general does that to me! Just had a very quick go thru the Surround Master of Doobies TITTS SACD Trk 01.. some things separate (drums in the two rears mainly, keyboard solo separates to the front) but it bears no resemblance to the Doobies Quad mixes.. so, I think that's a potential big fat line drawn under that little 5 minute experiment. The SACDs Stereo, is how it feels at the min and the Quad well, it may exist, it may not but I don't think its on that MFSL SACD. Back to sleep.. (me not all of you!) :eek:

A follow on question, Fizzy.. it's a very long shot and I am thinking very much outside the box here.. but might such a Stereo MFSL SACD have the necessary high frequency information retained from a CD-4 mastering (in order for it to demodulate into 4-channels, thru, say, a JVC 4DD-5..?) if that is indeed the 2-CH source that was used?

Yes, you never want to "monkey around" with a high frequency signal like that from CD-4 !!

Kiss your speakers goodbye-woofer damage iminent !

(Speaking from experience here-blew a few voice coils on my old JBL'S, with just loud play in CD-4)

2ndly;

I can't forsee anyone utilizing a lone CD-4 source for a professional Hirez release such as SACD ? But a discrete tape, Q4 master well that's a no brainer. (no high frequency signal , of course)

Now,

Back to the thread !:music

Just luv this last of The Moodies quads, Seventh Sojourn on DTS CD (an HDS wonder).John Cleese as the Scottish movie director would say;

Don't remember this too fondly (in fact, i seem to remember practically throwing it across the room in disgust upon ejecting, at the appalling lack of musicality of it all.. however, I can be a temperamental little git so potentially it is a great surround disc after all.. time to get it out again.. the disc, not the **** phaser.. :eek: )

A "Little" more relaxing than rap:

When you turn this up - it is like being on a big ship, a deep bass, from the giant engines, that almost can't be heard, but you feel it. And there is some music too :) from time to time.

Patricia Barber - Modern Cool blu ray 5.1

An absolutely amazing BD~A transfer with just the right degree of tasteful surround embellishment the music demands. Wish all of Ms Barber's albums received the surround treatment commensurate with this standard of excellence!

Totally agree, great sonics on this one. Jazz is something new for me the last couple of years, I hear a little of Diana Krall in her (or vice versa) :)

Riverside in 5.1 followed by a bit of Gilmour's RTL and Orbison's Black and White Nights.
One of the advantages of being at home with pneumonia is that you can listen to your surround collection (always look at the bright side of life, you know).

The healing powers of surround sound will ensure you get well soon :)

Yikes! :( Hope you can rid yourself of the pneumonia quickly.

BTW, even though I'm retired, I'd like to wish everyone in NA a happy labour day :upthumb

Concord SACD (2003) 5.1 DSD

Dueling Hammonds and swirling Leslie speakers with a small jazz combo.
Nothing in the center channel of the 5.1 mix but barely audible ambience.

Quad is wonderful for spreading the sound field and capturing the difficult-to-reproduce vibes of a B-3 / Leslie in a live room.
