Having some fun comparing the sound and the three slightly different 5.1 mixes for one of my favourite STEELY DAN tunes from GAUCHO.

"BABYLON SISTERS" from DTS CD, and DVD-A .......and from the live Two Against Nature Sensual Surround DVD in DTS.:D

All fantastic mixes, btw.(y)

Spending some time ripping my concert dvd's to hdd - it's great to start a concert with just a double-click :)

I SO want to like that disc. For some reason, to my ears, it's like fingernails on a chalkboard....@:

I think it's some of the best stuff ever, and Billy Cobham is one of my biggest influences as a drummer. To me it's 'The Original' jazz/metal. It's almost brutal in it's approach and has just absolute flurries of notes in some parts, and it's incredibly technical too. Maybe 'military-grade-psychedelic-jazz-metal'?@:

But I can totally understand how that this is not everyone's cup of tea. It's like being hit over the head with a Stradivarius or a bottle of fine wine. :violin :D

I should have clarified. I love the music. I just think the disc is shrill. :(

Ah, I gotcha. I guess it is probably just a bit hot in the upper midrange/treble. The cymbals and guitar are a bit brash, but my ears are tough, they can take it.

Currently listening to "The Noise - Live in Frejus 1982" concert film from the King Crimson "On (& Off) The Road" box set.
Besides the studio albums, this is the only other big highlight in surround sound, but it's a very good mix, and the concert film is fantastic, if only too short!
Fripp's playing on "The Sheltering Sky" is particularly impressive, as is Bruford's playing at the start of "Indiscipline".

It's great stuff! :)

Wired - Jeff Beck (Surround SACD)

well.. I seem to have disappeared into a Jeff Beck rabbit hole.. I've played Wired 4 times so far this weekend..
and it just gets better and better..

still can't quite believe it.. I mean, Wired.. on Surround SACD.. from the Quad.. crikey.. :yikes

..I guess dreams really do come true when you go pot-holing with Alice in the wonderland of the rising sun :smokin

always loved the way the Quad mix sticks Jeff Beck in one rear channel and Jan Hammer in the other and sets them noodling away at each other.. he ain't the guv'nah for nuffink but Jan's got some tasty licks an' all mate and they never sounded better or more "surround-y" than on the new SACD imho (bass fiends in particular will be in heaven, the low end is extreme..!) :worthy

Billy Cobham - Spectrum (2016 SACD) :smokin

love this one.. I guess the Quads kinda not a million miles away from Wired... you've got Tommy Bolin over here.. Jan Hammer over there..

hey! there's our man Hammer in M.C. again... well you coulda knocked me down with a...well, a hammer! :violin

Yesterday I went from Miami to Spectrum to Birds of Fire to Love Devotion Surrender to Bitches Brew. Seemed like a natural progression!

"4 1/2" by Steven Wilson (LPCM 5.1 surround Blu-Ray) while I cleanup and countdown to the Atlanta concert on November 17th! :)
