Blood, Sweat & Tears - Blood, Sweat & Tears (AF - SACD)

Hey, this one is pretty good! On track 8 now. Lacking on the low end but sounds decent overall. Don't really like the shortened 45 RPM version of both "Spinng Wheel" & "You've Made Me So Very Happy" with the former being the worst.

CARAVAN - In The Land Of The Grey And Pink (DVD-Video 5.1)

Don't let the DVD-Video scare you. This sounds outstanding....just killer. Surround mix is so damn good and the sonics here are superior. Thanks to Steven Wilson for that...

I have to disagree with you in part. The surround mix is "so damn good", but the DVD is a pale shadow of what it's REALLY supposed to sound like at full fidelity.
Thankfully, Universal have not repeated this blunder on recent releases like "Songs from the Big Chair".

That makes sense to me. Thanks for chiming in because as much as I would like to buy this title, the DVD-video part does scare me.

But the fidelity question will always be debatable. I believe that some people hear the difference between lossy and lossless more profoundly than others. Also audio system hardware and setup variation is another factor.

Like plenty of others have said on here before, the difference between lossy and lossless is much more extreme when comparing Dolby to LPCM or MLP.
Dolby Digital for DVD-V has a data compression rate of roughly 11:1! :yikes
For DTS, the difference from lossless is less extreme as DTS' data compression rate is only around 3:1

So even though I have lamented for the past three years that the Jethro Tull camp needs to step up their game once again by providing lossless surround on either DVD-A and/or Blu-Ray, at least the DTS is good enough for now, and I play those Tull discs a lot, whereas I've barely touched my Caravan disc since receiving it upon release...

Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Keystone 3. Great performance and fidelity with an effective (although not ultra-discrete) surround mix for a live jazz recording. Features the young Marsalis brothers. (y)

RUSH - A Farewell To Kings (Blu-ray Audio)

So far, so good. We need a thread to vote on this..don't we? I'll be the first in line....

hehe...somebody is excited...maybe you could be the first to "comment" on that disc...and maybe wait until a few spins to actually vote...just saying...hate for you to RUSH to judgement on that disc and later have second thoughts...the world will be watching on this one...it's probably the same mix that didn't exactly thrill a lot of people...so tread carefully my brother..

Hehe - yeah I know. It's good.....not perfect. It will get a similar rating to the other Rush disc I rated......though it does generally sound better...a bit wider....not monumentally wider, but noticeable. First listen....love it. Cygnus X-1 is awesome....
