It is harsh - the whole way through the song. It makes me think "mastering error" but I'm no techie. I find it unlistenable because it is so unpleasant. Track #9 "You're Not" is similar although not as pronounced.

I'm listening to the DVD-A of "Dig" right now. (Just got it in)
And to my ears those "noises" or "distortions" are intentional.
Not my favorite song I heard so far, but I'm really liking this disc a good bit. "Miss Riddle" is my favorite thus far. I can see why Elliot used it on one of his ELS demo discs. :)

Really glad you're enjoying it so far RT :) "Vanishing Point" and "Thanks To You" are superb, they've really grown on me over time and are now my two most played tracks off the album.

Yes, just finishing up both of those and they are also phenomenal! This one's getting a '9' for sure! :)

I came across this today in my local music store and joyfully purchased it. Now at home, I am having one pleasant afternoon! Some members here might know the Storioni Trio from their other excellent SACDs, etc... http://www.sa-cd.net/search/Storioni+trio

3 piano trios by 3 female composers... Clara Schumann, Rebecca Clarke, and Alba Rosa Viëtor.

The Storioni Trio gives superb performances of these marvelous piano trios. I am familiar with Clara Schumann's piano trio. It's wonderful that she was able to compose this masterpiece while pregnant with her fourth child. The Storioni Trio are completely in touch with her beautiful sound world...just try their delicate playing in the charming Scherzo and the gorgeous Andante. The other works by Clarke and Viëtor also show an exceptional mastery of the art of composition. All 3 instruments are handled equally to form a tight, cohesive group. Clarke and Viëtor's works show the influence of early 20th century music by Debussy, Ravel, and Bartok.

The skill & artistry of these works make one wonder about what other treasures would be ours to enjoy had circumstances been more favorable for these composers.

ArsProduktion's 5.1 surround mix is very good. While their surround sound is for the most part ambient, ArsProduktion tends to have a nice FULL sound in the rear channels...almost 360 degrees. I like this label's recordings very much.

Here's an in-depth review from Fanfare. One point I'd like to comment on is that the reviewer says the recording is "slightly recessed". I wouldn't put it that way. I think the balance is very good...all 3 instruments have good presence with a warm sense of air around the instruments. However, this recording seems to have a wide dynamic range, so it needs to be played at a higher volume setting. Then, it sounds fine.

This SACD is highly recommended, especially for fans of chamber music.

My Bluray version of Janáček's Sinfonietta arrived. I compared it with Edward Gardner's performance on Chandos SACD. Both performances & recordings are very good and can be recommended with enthusiasm.

It's interesting that the playing time is almost the same...Gardner - 23:23, and Wit - 23:21. The difference is that Gardner's interpretation is a bit more dynamic. The fast movements are brisker and the slow movements are more extended. Wit is more even throughout. So, performance wise I would have to give the edge to Gardner.

Here are 2 reviews...

Sound wise, both are excellent! The rear channels are ambient, but active in that they provide an wide, deep soundstage...that sounds quite immersive!

I know many members here prefer Blurays to SACDs due to their versatility. So If SACDs aren't your thing, then Wit's performance on Naxos is an excellent alternative.

Of course the other main difference is the accompanying pieces of music, which are all attractive.

Also... Gardner has recently released a follow-up Janáček Vol.2 SACD on Chandos... http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00UUXT62K/?tag=sacdinfocom08-21
