How is the surround on the BD?

I would give it a unique report card

Overall enjoyment: A

Channel Utilization:

Left Front: 90%
Center: 85%
Sub: 70%
Right Front: 95%

Left Surround or Rear: 35%
Right Surround or Rear: 35%

There are occasions it sparkles, however mostly it has a bit of acoustic guitar and some ambient stage noise.

Hope that answers your question.

Tom Petty - Mojo on blu ray in 5.1. I like the way this was recorded, with them basically in a circle iirc. It definitely gets more play than Hypnotic Eye, but I have a soft spot for both. RIP Tom...

The surround isn't why you should buy this "disc"...it's not much of a surround experience.....BUT...what makes this..IMO...the best collection of music on a single blu ray disc..is the quality of the sound of these live performances...although they were culled from different time periods and different sources...they don't suffer from the usual volume fluctuations that most compilation discs are born with...and when you consider the 62 songs on this one blu ray disc...you have hours of entertainment at your fingertips....it's the premier party disc...you can have friends over and get hours of uninterrupted music without ever leaving your chair...and not elevator music...real music...

Hmmm... the sets are super-expensive now, though. I'm thinking if the surround experience won't blow my socks off, it would be better to just get the 4 CDs and enjoy this in the car!

Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance - 10th Anniversary 5.1 remix

F*#king AWESOME!!! I love it so much more than the original 5.1 mix. This is well worth snagging before it goes OOP!!!
I found it only on Burning Shed, but maybe some deal hounds will still find it cheaper!

Maybe since Tom is no longer with us.... the record company might do what they usually do...flood the market with his music...which could include re-issues....as far as getting the CD's....I'm not sure you will benefit that much from them...just my opinion...instead you should wait and see what comes along...as we speak... I'm sure someone at the record company is burning the midnight oil planning to cash in on this music...sad as it is...that is the reality of the music business...strike when the iron is hot...and that is starting now...

They'll re-issue the BD as DVD-V though!!! :mad:@::yikes:confused:(n):confused::yikes:mad:@:

Listening now, more my style, The Rolling Stones Blu Ray video in DTS HD 5.1 2015 Live Sticky Fingers.
Awesome in fact the have the studio version of Monkey Man in 5.1 for the opening credits.

Since they have already used a BD I don't see why they wouldn't do it again...remember...we are talking about 62 songs....the work is already done...it wouldn't be that hard(or expensive) to just replicate the previous edition..

Yeah, you could be right, due to length, but consider the upcoming STP - Core Deluxe set. DVD-A downgraded to DVD-V.
DVD-V is definitely the trend, these days. Anything superior is a treat.

No offense to STP...but they aren't as mainstream(that's my politically correct way of saying that aren't nearly as popular) as Tom Petty...not even close...but I would be the last guy on the planet to try to claim that I understand the actions of a record company...they just don't always follow what "we" would consider the logical steps...my advise to you is just "wait" and see what happens..I would hold off on buying the CD's for that set...

Copland - Billy The Kid/Rodeo SACD (Bernstein/New York Philharmonic) - Ambiance only in the rear channels (source is a 3 track multitrack), but THIS IS AMAZING!!! From start to finish, this music is excellent. Makes me want to ride a horse through Monument Valley, sleep by a crackling open fire, and drink steaming coffee grounds in the cool morning. Every casual classical fan should have this.(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

Isn't Copeland great!! I couldn't find the disc you reference, do you have a link?

If you like that one, then here's another Copeland to blow you away. The clearest and most realistic orchestral recording I've ever heard. Not that I'm an expert, but it sure works for me!
