Ubertrout, I passed on this silverline disc but here's an upcoming LSO Live Disc [with Sir Simon Rattle conducting] which I DO look forward to [release date February 2nd]: https://www.hraudio.net/showmusic.php?title=12798#works

A GREAT price from ImportCD: https://www.importcds.com/an-imaginary-orchestral-journey/822231180869

Let us know how it is! I usually do an order once a year direct from the LSO, because their prices tend to beat any resellers, and they're even better during xmas: https://lsolive.lso.co.uk/collections/all-products/products/haydn-an-imaginary-orchestral-journey

Great sleuthing! Weird that there's so little on him yet he conducted some of the top orchestras in the world.

I must admit that the classical reviews are very "candid"....unlike the rock/pop reviews where you hear generalizations and "soft ball" observations...if it's not good in the classical genre...they go straight for the jugular..

If I'm going to listen to a new Beethoven or Mahler recording, it had damn well better be something special. There's so many good options already.

Speaking of good options and bringing it back to listening now, I've been listening to a few recordings of Schubert's D. 960 piano sonata (his 21st and last). It's a massive piece (45 minutes long) of melody and melancholy in balance. I listened to Krystian Zimmerman today off Tidal (Deutsche Grammophon recent stereo release), but one of my favorite recent recordings has been a BIS SACD of a 90-something Menahem Pressler, who has been recorded and playing professionally since the 1940s, playing the piece at a recital in 2012. It's fascinating to hear the lifetime of experience that goes into Schubert's own valedictory statement (although Schubert was a mere 31 when he died). The recorded sound is top-notch too.

Pressler is best-known for founding and playing with the Beaux Arts Trio for over 50 years, and making a slew of recordings including this essential one.

Again...

Art Garfunkel - Breakaway Quad from Vocalion

First song is a favorite of mine and it just soars....
I Believe When I Fall In Love It will Be Forever

Awesome...

Roxy Music - Roxy Music currently 5.1 Dolby Digital, DVDV, Yamaha amp tells me it's 48kHz sampling & 448kbps Bitrate. No discernable difference to the DTS (by my ears)

Pic of new and my original example of this title, yes a cassette! remember those?

A Djabe a day helps you work, rest, and play (to paraphrase the old Mars Bar adverts, probably only in the UK!) At Xmas in their sale I bought all the Djabe in 5.1 I didn't have, and I've listened to 4 of them this week. Great albums to work to, nice and relaxing, jazzy, excellent surround mixes.

So how’s it Clint? I have her 16 Sunsets which is pretty sweet in surround, but the music is quite laid back.

Well... to be candid..I used it as background music while I was "working" on my new computer...the fidelity sounded very good but I couldn't get a feel for the surround aspect as I was not in my "listening" area...the music was very tame at first and then picked up as it got deeper into the album...I need a few "real" listens to see how I feel about it...

I've never heard the DTS version....but I keep threatening to buy it off Ebay.....It always runs about $40 or so....

I don't recall what it cost me but it wasn't that much a year or two ago. Fairly sure mine was a little used copy (or possibly unopened) as the cd and case look great except the spindle is missing a few legs, I might have even cracked them removing the disc. I know watching the bay gets tedious but you should be able to find it for less that $40.

Edit: So much for my memory, I bought the BTO Not Fragile DTS CD in 2013 from 5.1 Marketing through Amazon for $26.21, time flies, unfortunately they no longer have it. Not sure if they even exist as a business.

Rocket Man & Mammy Blue : Hugo Montenegro (SACD)

well they didn't call ol' Hugo M "The Quadfather" for nothing.. the surround sound here is, no hype, jaw-droppingly good! :yikes

you could calibrate your system with the Rocket Man tracks alone, there's so many fabulous 360-degree pans! whee! whizz! bang! honk! woah woah woah! :party

every tune's a total toe-tapper, even a ballad like Yellow Brick Road is arranged in such a funky uptempo way it will have you up on your feet!

oh the Quad, oh the Quad, yeah the Quad is Back! fresh from the master tapes as a matter of fact!
(woah woah woah!) :p

incredible sounding surround music discs like this remind me why i got into this hobby of ours in the first place.. shine the light, shine the light.. Quadraphonia freedom! I love, love, love it! YES I DO!!! :wave
