Thanks for the heads-up. This is much less than what I was considering paying for a Q8 of "Seven" by Poco:

Looks like there's plenty of other discs there to keep me occupied for while, too.

So I started my day listening to a newly acquired 3 3/4ips stereo reel of Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits. Collecting old prerecorded stereo reels has become a bit of an addiction lately. My Akai GX-270D-SS spent way too many years as an ornament on the shelf.

I understand the nostalgia involved in some of these things from the past...but you can ask the members here that have these things and most or all of them will tell you that the Dutton discs are superior sounding to those formats of the past...ask fredblue(Adam)...he has quite a collection of the past quad examples...and I'm sure he will tell you that these Dutton SACDs are better...and then when you consider the cost...it's no real comparison..but I do understand the "cool" factor:cool:

And that's actually an understatement. In terms of noise floor and placement of instruments, D~V's QUAD SACDs RULE. And comparing tape running @ 3 3/4 ips to Master Tapes which are normally 15 ips is really liken comparing apples to oranges. I have a ton of those 3 3/4 ips Open Reels and really have NO interest in ever playing them again.

This new album is excellent in Surround Sound DSD. Definitely worth a purchase!

Excellent sounding disc! One of the first ones I purchased!
My problem with the disc is that I haven't been able to find it for over a year. I have the unopened AF SACD but seem to have lost my lovely DVD-A, though I still have the jewel case. I once returned a music disc to Fletnix and they promptly returned it and asked for the movie disc. I look for it now and again, must be here somewhere.

Down To Earth by Peter Gabriel plays over the end credits of Wall-E with a great artsy animation that shows humanity rebuilding society on Earth. Great song... I never noticed if it's a surround mix of the song or just stereo in the fronts. I'd check it out, but that blu-ray has been MIA for years.

I have that on a DTS-CD. Haven't played it in a while. I should dig it out and give it a spin.

the DTS CD of 461 OB is the old Quad mix.
the 5.1 being referred to in the "Give Me Strength" boxset is a remix by Elliot Scheiner.

not to confuse further but there was also another 5.1 mix by Mick Guzauski on a 2003 Hybrid MultiCh SACD.

so, there's 3 surround mixes of 461 OB in all = 1 x Quad + 2 x 5.1's.

the "Give Me Strength" set has 2 of those mixes on Blu-ray Audio (the Quad that you have already on DTS CD and Scheiner's 5.1). phew! :p

fwiw i have the "Seven" Q8 and SQ LP and as nice as it is to have them and both the tape and record are in nice condition and playback well, the new Surround SACD is, to me, nigh-on revelatory in terms of sound quality and leaves the old record and tape in the dust. plus, its a 2-fer with "Cantamos", which is a really hard to find Q8, I'd only ever found the SQ. the mixes on both albums are two of the all-time best Quads imho. more than a bargain, that 2-fer Poco SACDs daylight robbery! :ROFLMAO:

I have a couple of friends in town, that are also into surround. A couple of weeks ago one of them wanted to borrow my Perception set and asked what I wanted to listen to. I told him I wanted to hear the Fleetwood Mac surround from the box set. He said I could borrow the box set but had to take one more item home and listen. The last time he did this to me it was the Larisa Stow disc he had found somewhere. He handed me the Fleetwood Mac box and included the Gene Simmons dualdisc. He found it at an estate sale and paid a quarter for it. I finally got around to listening to it yesterday. I thought it would be horrible, but it was only underwhelming. I will listen once more before I give it back just to have a more informed opinion. Going to go but The Mission in now. I was glad to find my local record store carrying it. I also saw the Japan sacd of Drama in the store. I know it is stereo but wondered if anyone has heard it. Scott

I was just able to enjoy The Mission with it turned up and sitting in the sweet spot. I enjoyed it. I will listen again & break it down, but this was just to sit and experience it straight through. I had the visuals on with the lyrics in the bottom left hand corner. It reminded me of being 13 and listening to Crystal Ball with the headphones on. I will listen again with a few cold ones.

After another rough work week, time to relax, into a surround-a-thon along with a beer, arriving soon.

I start my evening listening to...

Talking Heads - True Stories (DualDisc)

This is not one of the better albums in their catalog. Wild Wild Life and Love For Sale are pure pop gems but I just love Papa Legba. Overall, I think I may like this one better than Naked.

marillion brave deluxe edition Blu-ray Disc DTS-HD MA 5.1 96k: Got it yesterday, my first Marillion. I've been on a buying spree and this arrived with some Heavy Horses. Oh and both were shipped loose in padded bags from mamazon but amazingly no crushed book corners.
