The surround is only ambiance, but I can't say I cared. Felt like being in the hall, only better-sounding.

I just received Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax SACD.
Produced by Trevor Horn
Mixed in 5.1 by Dan Vickers and Ian Robertson.

This is a surprise to me, how good this sounds.
Can't find a poll listing or too many peeps views on this one.

Very discrete and fidelity is top notch
I know its not to everyone's taste but if you can track one down you won't be disappointed.
I was very lucky, got mine off a seller on Discogs for a reasonable price.

Marillion - Clutching At Straws 5.1 LPCM Blu-ray
I'm quite familiar with this album and I have noticed that they seem to have used different takes compared to the original, Fish's vocals are different on some tracks (White Russian), also his voice is stark and alone in the centre.
Just able to turn up the volume as the neighbours have gone out, I can hear the surround mix better, the rears are being used with keyboards left, guitar notes in the right (The Last Straw/Happy Ending)
Onscreen there is a constantly changing picture show & the title of the track playing.

Edit: I'm getting through my 2nd listen to this at a proper and good volume, I'm really enjoying it, the surround is great, some really nice touches, the girl singing "Warm, Wet Circles" on That Time of the Night (the Short Straw) moves round the speakers clockwise. Andy Bradfield & Avril Mackintosh done good. And tracking is telling me that The White Album is 1 stop away!!!!!

It's been a Brahms kind of weekend.

500x500

After listening to the Brahms piano quintet last night I put on a bit of the surround mix for Sgt. Pepper and it was kind of jarring to be reminded of the difference in quality between an older pop record and a modern classical recording - Sgt. Pepper sounded like a really well restored vintage album, while the Brahms sounded like the instruments were in the room.

Love late Brahms and Fauré in autumn.

Now listening to Johannes Brahms: 3 Violin Sonatas - Steinbacher/Kulek

Some jazz...

Brad Shepik. Human Activity Suite

Instrumental well played jazz instrumentals with prominant trumpet lead guitar organ.
All speakers are firing with this dense active music. You have to look very hard to see the sacd logos not prominant labeling.
Thanks beerking for the reccomendation. Half way through my first listen.... ,
