Saga's 2004 album called "Network" came with a 5.1 mix. I know I had it at one point but I am not sure if I still do have it buried in my stored collection. The fact that I can't even recall makes me think the mix was a stinker. Never was a major fan but found a cut or two on each album that I could like. They have a great sounding cover of "Solsbury Hill" on the compilation album "The Works" in 1991.

Well, you probably don't remember it because the music is not one of their best efforts ...no earworms here (as opposed to "20/20", where there are LOTS of them.., e.g., "Anywhere you wanna go" "Six feet under", etc.),
BUT ,
alas,
The MCH mix , even if it's Dullbee, is VERY ACTIVE and very good...obviously, we all have our standards...

So...unfortunately, we have a musically "forgettable" album with a ROCKIN' MCH mix....

Did Saga release any other Mch mixes?

Thanks - I will need to dig and see if I still have this and give it another whirl.

always thought Saga's Ian Crichton looked like Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hammil.

Los Angeles Guitar Quartet - Guitar Heroes SACD

Also, just received Jeff Beck Group. Only on the second track and dig it. Great mix.
UPDATE:
Just listened to the entire album on 8 track. I mean, SACD. It kicks ass!
Had to listen to Going Down twice. A favorite Freddie King jam that's outstanding, here. Loved all the separations and nerdy audiophile things I know I need to know more about.

Jeff Beck can take the Pepsi challenges with all the recent SACD releases of note. They're all great. Again, I urge someone to do Straight Outta Compton, because as a fortysomethng, I like to gripe. Maybe Jeff Beck can riff on guitar for the new mix.

My Jeff Beck Group arrived a few minutes ago. Being headed out the door, I'll be forced to listen to the CD layer. My car has a DVD-A, but not SACD. I have a Q8, SQ and CD of this title. Yes, the Quad is a great mix. I 'll be listening in 4.0 later this afternoon while watching the Cubs.

Listening to... Straight Outta Lynwood by Weird Al on a DualDisc as a reminder from Edisonbaggins (I believe). Discrete DD 5.1 and it's excellent. Accordions in surround are a must. Hip Hip Hooray, It's Weasel Stomping Day in a multichannel mix ought supplant DSTM.

Slowhand - Eric Clapton - SACD
Wonderful Tonight made Mrs. Baggynz cry.
Nice separation. I'm not a big fan of splitting up harmony vocals so far apart - main vocal in front, background vocals in rears. Harmonies are supposed to blend, dammit. I like hearing all the guitar layers very clearly. I like the keys and some of the drums in the rears. I wish the bgvs were closer to center.
Some great guitar sounds on this one!

Derek and The Dominos - Layla (and other assorted love songs) (Elliot Scheiner mix - dts DVD)

Not to spoil the mood, but how did you like Layla disc? I have it but keep skipping it in favor of others. It was a pre sub woofer disc for me and given my time constraints opinions are welcome.

It's actually one of my favorites - I've played it a lot since I got it about 4 years ago. I think he really gave it a nice treatment with good use of the rears. I definitely like it better than the SACD with the other mix. What I'd really like is to see it get an Audio Fidelity release, considering Elliot's involvement with things.

Given that it's a title owned by Universal Music, I'm not sure how likely it is Audio Fidelity could license it for a Multichannel SACD release.
What Universal SHOULD have done was add the ES Surround mix to their stereo-only Blu-Ray released two years ago, but that was before they were OK with including surround mixes on these HFPA Blu-Ray releases. What morons they were back then. Thankfully things have been better since.

Chandos's Mch SACD conducted by Andrew Davis is also very good. It's not an aggressive Quad mix, but the natural ambiance is done well and the performance is first rate.

Just got this one the other day. Beautiful sound, modern but smooth, extremely dynamic. Wonderful low end from organ & percussion, from distant subterranean rumblings to room-shaking cacophony. This part is always extra fun for me when I consider that there are no huge amplifiers or other electronics on this stage. Not that there's anything wrong with that stuff, but man - this is just a buncha people banging on shit with sticks and blowing air through pipes, and it sounds like there's a fire-breathing dragon in the living room. Gotta love it!

This recording also achieves some excellent you-are-there staging & ambience. Incidentally: A few folks around here have mentioned that you don't care as much for the ambient mixes. I've found that I like them a lot more since I upgraded to a matching set of 5 speakers. Previously, with different center & surrounds, I was getting good sound with the more discrete mixes, but it seems to help a lot, particularly with the big ambient sounds, to now have good frequency response and phase coherence from all channels. Took me about 15 years to gather up a matching set, but it was worth it! Anyway - just something to think about if you're considering a hardware upgrade.

Back to the disc: My only musical quibble with this performance of The Planets is that this conductor doesn't seem to find much middle ground with his tempos. The slow sections are r-e-a-l-l-y s-l-o-w, and the faststuffisreallyfast! I'm really enjoying the other of Holst's works on this disc (Beni Mora, Japanese Suite), neither of which I've heard before. Both are quite beautiful.

Keep 'em coming, Lute! :)
