SACD arrived today

Like rtbluray I'm also revisiting Yes in LPCM bluray, but The Yes Album. I know it's a cliche, but this fucker was made for surround. I doubt Steven will ever top this. Masterpiece! Especially cranked up. This is definitely a to go album for me.

It's a "Drums & Wires" afternoon for me. :)

Funny thing, this album has always sounded best to me around this time of year, with a hint of change in the air. Just listened to it the other day, probably will a few more times as we head into autumn here. Really enjoying the 5.1 version.

Same for me, and the same is true for "Nonsuch", "Close to the Edge", "Relayer", "Songs from the Big Chair" and basically everything from the King Crimson catalogue.
Let's face it. Autumn is always the greatest season for us surroundaholics because of all of the great stuff that is released going into the holiday season.
We are about to receive "THRAK", "Oranges & Lemons", "Octopus", "Fragile", and some remixes from Steve Hackett just as the leaves change and beautiful cool weather comes through.
It begins the most wonderful time of the year! :)

For me though, this seasonal preference thing goes way back, long before my (relatively recent) surround addiction. It mostly correlates with the season during which an album "imprints" itself on my soul - usually the period when it's in heavy rotation right after I've acquired my own copy.

For example, Fragile and Close to the Edge are both solid summertime tunes for me. They were released in the later months of '71 and '72 respectively, but being a kid I didn't get around to buying them until the following summers, when I had money from mowing lawns! I loved them both so much that it became an almost daily ritual to come in after a hot afternoon of mowing, lie down in the living room with my head betwixt the speakers of the trusty Zenith Console Stereo, and just bliss out to Fragile one year, Close to the Edge the next!

This stuff really gets to me for some reason - even all these years later, as soon as the warm weather rolls around and I catch a whiff of that fresh-mowed grass, both of those albums are sure to go on the playlist!

Loggins & Messina (2nd album) 4.0 SACD.

I also own this on Q8, SQ & CD. A great album & mix made even better on SACD. My two favorite rock/pop acts in the 70's were/are L&M and Santana. Of the five L&M studio albums of new material, I like this one the least. Still, it is a better album than most people's best. Whiskey, Long Tailed Cat, Thinking of You, and Angry Eyes are all killers. It also has their biggest hit, Yo' Mama...

Loggins & Messina 4.0 SACD ... Only bought this to support the cause (wasn't that impressed after listening to the first few songs on YouTube), but excellent fidelity and surround mix are really making it hard not to like this! (even "Your Mama Don't Dance):)

Loggins and Messina - Loggins and Messina (SACD)

I got Loggins and Messina's 2005 concert DVD (mixed by Elliot Scheiner) a few weeks ago and have been having a lot of fun getting back into their music. This 4.0 SACD is the perfect follow up. It sounds fabulous. Nice separation of the individual parts.

Keep these 4.0s coming Audio Fidelity! :wave

Loggins and Messina - Loggins and Messina SACD in glorious 4.0. All of the great quad recordings from Audio Fidelity have me digging through the hundreds of my quad conversions (some to that my ears are just as good as the AF ones, kudos to the converters :) (y)) Listened to WAR - The World is a Ghetto, haven't listened to this one in a while and it always surprises me just how good it is, AF needs to go to WAR! Up next Edgar Winter's - White Trash Quad conversion, AF needs some White Trash! To be followed by Edgar's They Only Come Out at Night Quad conversion, Bill Wyman's Monkey Grip Quad Conversion and....well you get the Idea. Quad on the floor and pedal to the metal...and pop...and soul...and rock n' roll!

The Jeff Beck Group. Such a stellar quad mix by the AF people, it actually appears as though my post seems educational. It's not. Just get this thing and crank Going Down until the cops get called.

R.E.M. - New Adventures in Hi-fi
(Favorite R.E.M. Record)

It's one of my favorites too, and it's a shame that it did not get the attention or respect it deserved when it was first release, and that was a trend that continued to work against R.E.M. until they split up in 2011. (although I do think at least "Accelerate" was very well received when it was released in 2008)
