Do you have to use a particular media player. Can it bitstream Dolby Atmos and DTS audio via HDMI. And how about DSD bitstreams?I use the HDMI out of a Rpi 4 into my Marantz SR7013 for playing FLACs.

Using squeezelite, a small distro on an SD card, piCoreplayer on a RaspberryPi runs the Lyrion Media Server (LMS - previously Logitech Media Server) . After Logitech dropped the Squeezebox hardware products (despite being able to handle many file types and high resolution) a very strong user community has kept it alive and surpassed the original functions of LMS using Raspberry pi and other hardware sources.Do you have to use a particular media player. I have an Oppo 105D, and play Rhino Quad SACDs at 192kHz both out the analog out [for stereo using the Sabre reference DAC) and HDMI to my Onkyo 5.2.4 AVR for multi-channel playback. I believe the HDMI is set to PCM.I have a Oppo 203 and a friend sent me some files in flac 192 khz for rhino quad and my setting is bitstream for hdmi playback on my Oppo and all I get is wierd fluttering sound of the music as if at wrong speed.
Can the Rhino quad be put at 192 or should it be 96 as isn't 192 meant for stereo playback?
I'm using a 4. There was a time when either piCorePlayer or Max2Play or both could not do bit perfect via HDMI, which made it useless for AC-3 or DTS, but the last time I tested that it was working fine. But since I like to run just about everything through the Surround Master, HDMI isn't enough. Running the USB to the Topping lets me send analog to the SM and S/PDIF to my receiver, which is perfect. What model Raspberry pi are you using? 4?
Have you tried straight out of the HDMI on the pi? just curious.
If you can get your hands on the official FLAC encoder (https://xiph.org/flac/download.html), copy the problem file to your computer and try this:Duncan, just sent me 2 test files and the 96 played no problem for me and then same song done at 192 I get the fluttering out of sync.
flac --force --best --verify --mid-side --exhaustive-model-search --no-padding "<yourflacfile>"
I created an mkv file that held only the quad audio stream. I then extracted FLAC files from this mkv file using Music Media Helper v8.0.6.
I ran into what I believe is the same problem encountered by Peter (original poster). The Oppo plays the FLAC file, but it is distorted. (But the mkv file plays fine.)
I then opened the FLAC file in Audacity - looked fine. Tested all 4 channels using the "Solo" option. No distortion.
I then exported the audio, changing Audacity's default audio option from "mono" to "Custom Mapping", and ensured that "Output channels=4".
I also renamed the FLAC file, adding TEST to the end. The file is still 192K. No problem now with the Oppo. File played perfectly.
Go figure.
