Oh....I'm supposed to listen to it? LOL. 🤪

Spoilers ahead folks....

So....I will certainly need more listens. But my first impression is that while it's no 10, it's not bad either. It does have some wonderful moments, the intro to "Sheep" for example is a highlight. Rick's electric piano is in stereo in the rears while Roger's (or is it Dave's) bass is in front of you.....meanwhile birds chirp and sheep bleat all around you. The album starts out in stereo. I don't think there's any rear channel activity on "Pigs On the Wing (part one)". When "Dogs" begins the soundstage opens right up. There's a nice spread of instruments all around. However when the full band kicks in the mix starts to feel a bit too conservative. But soon enough rears start to kick in again. I was afraid that "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" would be a major disappointment because the rockier tracks on Amused to Death had the least adventurous mixes. But there is some cool stuff going on there. At times Guthrie fills the surround field quite nicely, at other times I wish he had been a bit more aggressive.

The one thing that struck me with this mix is that it often doesn't respect the feel of the original. There are many places where the vocals are significantly drier for example. The most glaring difference comes during "Sheep". The "Lord is my shepherd" section that precedes the last verse sounds completely different from the original mix.

Overall it was an enjoyable listen, but I can't help but wonder how much better it could have been in the hands of a master like Scheiner, Wilson, Clearmountain or Penny.

With all due respect to @privateuniverse (and I agree with several things he said), I am giving this one a resounding 10. I won't go into details yet (too much to process), but lots of goose bump moments for me here. While I agree that there are some significant differences (the "Lord is My Shepherd" section being the most notable example - not sure how I feel about it), I felt that the mix provided me with a new listening experience - and an immersive one - for an album that I thought I knew every note of. That's what I look for in a surround mix, and this one succeeds on all levels for me. I still have to listen a few more times, but I would say that, after one listen, this is Guthrie's 5.1 masterpiece.

One suggestion: Turn it up. It sounds huge!

My Bullmoose order arrived but I am out of town until Sunday. I will not read reviews, I will not read reviews, I will not read reviews.

NOT EVEN GLOWINGLY POSITIVE ONES, STEVE?

Tempted to cancel my ImportCDs order and save $3 on S&H (and probably take delivery a lot sooner). But I know that the second I do, I'll get an "order shipped" email from ImportCDs, and then the cancellation won't go through. . . .

No shipping updates from Amazon for me either (not yet shipped), although mine does say it will arrive on Friday, September 16th. My only hope is that it's sitting in the Amazon warehouse 10 miles from my house and they will deliver it quickly. Happy for everyone getting it early and hope mine miraculously arrives tomorrow.

So, I'm home from work now, very tired, maybe not much concentration. But, I feel inclined to give my knee-jerk comments as I seem to be one of the few to have mine.

I am not married to mixes that are super wacko, all over the place. I do like them though. This is NOTHING like Dark Side of The Moon in terms of surround stuff here and there. But rest assured, the fidelity is a massive improvement to any version I've ever heard. That's a major win for this album. The rear channels are a bit conservative, but they work as a whole for me. As Ogrequad said, and I agree, it's big, and just turn it up and be amazed at how super impressive this will fill your listening space.

In my very limited ability to sit and listen to this intently, I love it, and I couldn't be happier. I'll be sniffing around a 9 as a vote I suspect. It's just so fun to be able to hear this iconic album with incredible fidelity and punchy bass. Wow!

Hey has no one reviewed the liner notes? This is what held up release for several years.
I want to know how satisfactory and immersive they are.
"This is the space where the liner notes should have been. Because we wanted to get this out before we died, we decided to omit the liner notes."

Yeah I've been logging in to Amazon all day hoping the status was changed to "Preparing to ship" but it still just says "Arriving Friday", which is OK. I was just hoping with everyone getting it early, Amazon might give me a break and get it here tomorrow.

If I get too anxious, I can always listen to the old CD... I guess.

Oh sure, thanks a lot.
A rave review and Amazon says I have to wait for another week. Someone bring me a rope.

Still waiting for ship notice from Importcds. Strange, because I already received a ship notice for Holidays In Eden which releases on the same date. Hopefully we won't see the dreaded supply issues coming up again.
