Re: MakeMKV - it worked on the first pass for me. I upgraded to the latest version (1.17.1) before I started ripping. I'm on a mac, but I wouldn't expect the Windows and Mac versions differ in any functional way. It generally shits the bed if I don't get the latest version whenever I rip a brand new disc.
I got it to work just now. I guess I was just impatient. It usually doesn't take so long for the decryption part to finish. It took over 3 minutes, then it finally started rolling.

Playing a bit louder now. This is epic. I mean, from an overall fidelity standpoint, this is massive. It truly is. It's stupid good. Though, I cannot get Make MKV to work on this one. It just gets hung up and won't do it's thing. Hmmm
Nice! I'm just staring at the unopened version of mine. I've waited so long that I just want to savor every bit of the process.

Since they say "2018 Remix," I wonder if there is an Atmos version of this, and the others, in the works.

This is a beast of a mix, drums are amazing, what a low end! You'd better have full range rears.
I'm on first listen and I'm really impressed. Surprised also with some differences with the original mix that appear here and there. Only minor complaint so far is that maybe vocals sound a bit recessed (in PTDO,.for example).
The wait was worthy!

I got worried when I read "You'd better have full range Ears".
Caught it on second reading !

Made the mistake of ordering mine from PF's official site. Haven't gotten a ship notice yet; the order says the release date is today, so we will see.

Yes - the drums are what really stood out to me as the biggest sonic improvement in this mix. I don't think I've ever heard Nick Mason's toms sound so huge.

There are moments when they swirl around you, they sound astonishingly well. This is why I was mentioning the need for full range back speakers, they get some real use with this mix

HUGE bass pedals 6 minutes into Pigs!!!!! DANG...did not know they were there ..also about 10 mins into Dogs...
I like it so far...now why couldn't they use MCH this way on DSOTM?
I think DSOTM was a sacred cow with a difficult to improve stereo mix and an even better quad. The 5.1 was approached with too much respect to the stereo reference and with too much influence from the band members.
In this case, all members alive shared many times how displeased they were with the existing mix and fidelity and this may have given Guthrie more liberty. And, just guessing, I tend to believe that RW, DG and NM have meddled less with the mix. But God knows... what really matters is that it well may be the best JG surround mix to date.
If he's done the same to The Wall, we'll have to wait and see.

My biggest beef ( pun.... ) with the original mix was how lackluster the drums sounded, compared to other Pink Floyd releases of the era. Although it's still probably my favourite PF album.

Looking forward to hearing it anew!
