My Amazon shipment says arrives Friday by 10pm. I guess it will be a late night. Not sure I'll be able to blast it unfortunately.
They may be under-promising a bit, with Chicago Friday rush-hour traffic an unpredictable variable?

Amazon's logistics algorithms have now determined the most efficient way of getting the blu ray to me.

From the warehouse in Des Moines to the post office for the last 150 miles.
Delivery tomorrow with the afternoon mail, USPS tracking provided. :)

I was demoing some Atmos mixes to my daughter last Sunday. After playing some streaming Atmos (low volume) with my system turned up to 80 on my AVR I played a BD Atmos mix, forgot to turn the volume down and all hell broke loose. I have 5 x 500W amps for my main 5 and the room almost exploded. The neighbours must have gone into panic too!

Seriously? I've never noticed anything like that here in the US ???
Yeah, it's usually very difficult to see unless MakeMKV throws an error or won't rip quicker than 2.4x. Even then, the disc may appear to be spotless. A good wipe with a clean, wet microfibre cloth does the trick though. Sometimes, multiple cleans are needed. Hereditary 4K needed to be dunked multiple times round here if I remember correctly.

Finally got my Animals ship notice from Importcds. It won't be here until next week, but based on early reviews it just makes the anticipation sweeter. Along with Holidays In Eden, some great listening is ahead. :D

Finally it arrived today and of course I listened to it. One of the most important albums for me.
Long awaited - finally released. So where are the liner notes that have been so difficult? Anyway, I like it as it is.

And: It's definitely a different mix to Brian's. For comparison I'll listen to the stereo mixes as well.

Some observations:
  • James Guthrie uses large speakers. Subwoofer is low frequency effects. This is different to many Steven Wilson mixes. My speakers are full range, but not that large. No problem, I like much low end so I can always choose my analog downmix option that is optimized for my equipment here. If I want more ...
  • A lot of details are heard now.
  • Guitar soli: mighty, Dogs is incredible.
  • James does not really use the center speaker. Similar to Andy Jackson I think. So it's more or less a 4.1 (quad) mix. But a good one.
  • Pings on the Wing 1 (and 2) are very dry. Haven't heard the old mix a long time, but I remember there was a little room on Rogers voice. May be I'm wrong. It just sounds different to me.
  • Vocoder section on Sheep is very different to original version.
  • Keyboards became more interesting in this 4.1 mix.
  • Drums sound different, snare drum especially.
  • May be the new mixes got rid of some glitches during Dogs. My 2011 remaster CD and the old CD from 80s have those glitches. I've to check this by time when listening with headphones.
Strongly recommended BD-A. Enjoy! Have fun!

Mine will be here tomorrow. Can't wait for the 5.1 mix, I am not really liking the Stereo remix very much. To me it just sounds "off" and don't like the snare sound at all. Then again I have been listening to this record for 45 years, love the original mix and have it engrained into my skull. I hate when people says the original sounds murky or dull. I think that was the point, to make it sound like what you see on the cover. An overall dismal package.

Was anyone else here a dummy like me and order the Blu-Ray from the official Pink Floyd store?
I just received an email from music glue informing me that:
"The release date of 'Pink Floyd - Pink Floyd Animals (2018 Remix) Blu-Ray' has been changed to 22 Sep"
WTF?

That certainly does seem odd, the expectation from ordering direct from the band's store, would be that they'd be some of the first out

If you can cancel it, you can still get it quicker from Amazon.

I knew it!!!
Reading all of this has made me even more excited (is that even possible??)

Let’s hope The Wall gets similar treatment to what JG has done to Animals!

Very excited to hear this thing, finally!

Even the menu music is a treat on this disc! Value added for sure.

My only "disappointment" is that I was secretly hoping that they snuck the 8-track "Snowy White" mix of "Pigs on the Wing 1+2" onto the disc as an easter egg, but alas, no go on that...

But God knows... what really matters is that it well may be the best JG surround mix to date.
I'm starting to think that Atmos has brought a new bravery and willingness to be creative with surround mixes. I believe many feared their work being labeled "gimmicky" as was so popular back in the quad and even 5.1 days.
Yes friends, there is much more mixing artistry to be expressed with surrond sound beyond a bunch of ambience channels.

My Amazon shipment says arrives Friday
wOOt, I just got an update from Amazon and mine says the same thing.
Tomorrow, tomorrow, I'll love you tomorrow, your only a day away.
"Now I know something really special is happening to get me singing that sucky cheesy song". LOL
