I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. First off, the new Seal IV Dvd-Audio title is affected by this issue as well. Second, I have heard mention of the recording industry and copy protection being possibly at fault. Sounds like crap to me. I have a Panasonic Dvd-Audio player that is closer to a year old (since I bought) and I'm sure the manufacture date is older. No problems with any of the affected titles. If it was something that had been changed by the industry I'm sure this player would also have been affected. I have a claim number currently. I will however not pay a dime to ship this. I told them so and they escalated it to higher management. Expecting a call soon. Just need this player working as I only have the one reciever and can't have them both connected. Bought the Pioneer due to the added SACD capabilities. Update soon...

I'm looking at my UPS charge slip totaling $5.23 which was for pickup + insurance for $150 at my office from Indianapolis, IN for a double boxed package containing the 563a going ground service to Michigan. Pioneer pays to ship it back.

Sitting around waiting for Pioneer to *maybe* pick up a $5 tab seems insane to me but I do understand the principle.

I got so fed up with this ******** that I took the law into my own hands. Went to the same retailer I'd bought my DV-563A from in January and asked 'em to get me one with the latest manufacturing date, which is printed on the box. "February 2004" it said, so I bought it. Brought it home, verified it would play the DVD-Audio titles (it did), put the "old" unit in the "new" box, sealed it up and returned it for a full refund the next day. Bada-bing! Sorry it had to go this way. **** Pioneer.

I was wondering if the newer players would work. What discs did you try out? If the February 2004 players do, in fact, play the problem discs, I'll do the same thing you did!

yeah that was my post....goodbye yellowbrick road does not output audio in hi-rez on my 563a (manufactured 10/2003)

You can pick up Goodbye YBR on hybrid SA-CD (with or without the bonus "Making Of" video DVD). Whenever I have the choice between DVD-A and hybrid SA-CD (not often!) I go with the one that will play in my walkman and my car. Great 5.1 mix whichever way you go (assuming you can play it!)

Waiting for my 563a to come back from Michigan (yeah, I broke down and paid the shipping)

Anyone know if the fix works on the Capricornia disc? I tried for hours to get that disc to work with no luck at all.

Thanks.

Brought my player in today to get fixed. Lady who talked to technician said that it would be ready in 3 days, depending on when the technician received the FIRMWARE DISC UPGRADE.

One of the pioneer reps on the phone said to me that he figured there will be a disc in two months either to mail out or every local pioneer dealer would be able to take care of this. Just his guess.
So maybe some of you should wait to see how this issue plays out.
BTW, I saw gaucho on hybrid sacd today.
Tommy, GBYBR, and Gaucho all have been released on both formats. I'm curious why.

Just an update....My player went out today. I told Pioneer that I absolutely would not pay anything towards this fix including shipping either way. As mentioned before, my older Panasonic is not affected by these issues and I don't feel they can claim that it was someone else's fault. They sent out a call tag and picked up my player for shipping at their cost. Gotta be firm guys.

I'm curious about this myself. You can make the Capricaornia disc work if you edit out the first 3 seconds and reburn it to a cd-r.

Did that last night and it does work. That is good enough for me (for now). I will likely send the player in anyway at some point to make sure everything else will work with it.

Take care.

Ok if you're willing to wait I guess. On the other hand I paid my $5 for a pickup monday 04-29 and it's back in my hands today 05-06 from ABL in Michigan. Pretty good turnaround.

Dabl,

Mine just arrived in Kansas for the repair today. Only left 2 days ago. Just don't feel that we should have to pay anything for something that is obviously Pioneer's problem. They need to back their product up which for me they are doing currently. Can't wait to get it back.

I got my player back. It works. However, I had got my player modified and by upgrading the firmware, it set the play back to region 1 and no copying to CHS. That's bad for me because I now have to ship it back to the original modifier at $65. FYI.

Hey!

Where did you send your unit to get it modified? I wonder if they can modify it so that it still plays the new DVD-As...

Update:

I sent in my player Friday at UPS' expense.
If you explain your situation, and do not live near
an authorized upgrade center, Pioneer should issue
a UPS call tag which means free shipping from your
house.

I'll be curious to see if it fixes the problems with the new
DVD-A's. Does it fix the Midnight Oil DTS CD?

A question...Do you think when they open the player up they blow out the dust and clean the lens?? Would I have a really big pair of balls leaving a note asking them to do that when I ship my machine?

Well you can say in the note that since they have the balls to make us pay for the shipping, you have the balls to ask them to clean the lens :)

I brought my 563 to the Markham service center in Canada on April 21 (about 3 weeks ago) and haven't heard from them since. I called this morning and they said the technician haven't updated my file so they can't give me the status. They will call me when it's ready. I was wondering if any Canadian 563 owners got their unit back with problem resolved, and how long it took to have the fix done.

Hey, Thomas,

I brought my player in person to the Markham office back on April 15, and I still haven't heard a thing from them. I inquired last week about the status of my unit, and received the same non-reply you did: "We'll call you when it's ready." Clearly, their service turnaround is absolutely pathetic; I've seen reports from people in California who had their updated players returned to them in 3 days. I've been pretty patient regarding this whole mess, but after this, I'll never purchase another Pioneer product ever again.
