At the risk of derailing this thread, y'all have no idea how TRULY great vinyl can sound! Try a low output MC cartridge w/mint 1st pressing ANALOG master, NOT from digital files. How about a Direct-to-Disc, quality 1/2 speed master, or analog audiophile pressing?

Yes, Ortofon MC will work for CD-4, but you need to set it up METICULOUSLY. Shibata or Fine Line stylii! YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD VINYL SOUND THIS GOOD!!!! and MCA-76 pre-preamp w/CD-4 switch!! JAW DROPPING!!

Even for 2ch, ditch the Elliptical. Ditch the moving magnets. YOU"LL NEVER REGRET IT. Otherwise, a nail works as well as a conical stylus!! and it's cheaper and more durable.

Sermon over. Get ready to spend some serious $$$ and listen to vinyl as never before! Been listening that way for 45 years!! You could walk into my store and hear an Ortofon MC 20, Infinity tonearm mounted on a Kewood Pro or Technics pro TT! through 500w ch Kenwood Pro monobloc amps & matching preamp. Infinity, ESS, KLH, AR, Bose 901 and other speakers playable through it all. Instantly!! 1978?? no way. We printed ALL invoices on a computer! Kept inventory that way, too. 5 full time service techs, IN STORE!!

We were consistently #2 in our 110 store chain. Berkeley, CA, our 1st store was consistently #1. They were beat only once, by US!! Our Grand (re)opening had Steve Dahl (later Mr.. Disco Demolition Night). and champagne flowing like crazy, free albums (we WERE owned by CBS!!)

Ours was ONLY STORE in 110 store chain where you could see/hear that on display. My store. Lombard, IL. We were authorized dealers for high end lines that NONE of our other stores were even franchised for. 'CAUSE WE KNEW HOW TO SELL HIGH END GEAR!!

IN '78, we built a newer, better store across the street. We were the test market for our new store design and signage. blue signs. Marketing company heading the project was in Oak Brook, IL, next town from our store. I opened new Lombard and a year later opened Schaumburg, IL for Pacific.

IMHO, CD's sound better than the way most people listen to vinyl. Listen for real and GET THE HEAVY MAGNET STRUCTURE OFF THE CANTILEVER. FREE YOUR VINYL FROM BEING BOUND UP!! Otherwise, it's just like shorts or a bra that are too tight. painful!
Okay! Ima start saving up! Send us some pix of your TT in action, if you have the time and inclination. You are MUCH appreciated . . . and LOVED!

Debuting my NEW OM30 stylus..sounds SOO SWEET!!!
...you like to think you're immune to the stuff....an IMMENSE SONG!
this is a SOLID album...the 1st song is a BLAST!
and , well, whaddayaknow???
being a NEW OLD STOCK SEALED LP, if you play it a second time after you dust off what was in the grooves that was "cleaned" by the stylus, it will play much cleaner so I am guessing I will wear this one out much faster..but looking at my old OM30 , I really can't see any wear since the tip is so tiny...

Saw a Columbia 2-eye of this at Waterloo in Austin. Completely regret not buying it. I picked Chicago Transit Authority 2-Eye instead. I was on a tight budget as I was seeing King Crimson that night. Went to pay, and overheard the guy in front of me speaking with a British accent I recognized. I looked up and it was Robert Plant buying a turntable. He was there with Patti Griffin, and she said, "Come on Robert there are people behind you." I didn't want to approach him as I generally try to leave celebrities alone when I see them, but he was my hero, and I would ask my dad to play "D'yer Mak'er" when I was a mere tyke. I thanked him for his music, told him that my dad introduced me to his music when I was three years old."

As I was walking away, he said, "Three years old? Are you serious???"

had to bite at someone selling a SEALED copy for $14, I already have it but it seems that , either it was a not so good pressing or somebody's sylus was trashed because it has a lot of sibilance on the voices/percussion...this one sounds much better..and I am a sucker for hype stickers...

I have been rather lucky on my visits to the Salvation Army; I have been acquiring a bunch of RCA "Living Stereo" original pressings in almost MINT condition-these have been reissued many times and even in three channel SACDs!
First off, this Rossini one conducted by Fritz Reiner which basically played MINT!...a bunch of Bugs Bunny/Elmer references too, a beauty!

and now, another gem; unfortunately it has a manufacturing defect; a PLAYABLE "bump" the size of a grain of salt on one side which downgrades it to NM.

Listening to these really is a trip down how LPs in the late 50s were incredible sounding with just THREE mics, the image is huge and the fidelity, although most don't reach past 30K, is incroyable! as I say, these are the ones to have cause tapes were FRESH!

well, I am SUCH a SUCKER for good ole' Babs...this one was in VG- condition but hey...my step father had this on SQ LP which I still have in Madrid...

SPEAKING of guilty pleasures.. another Salvation Army find.. this looks played VERY MUCH but there were no MAJOR scratches and man, was I surprised when I played this sucker; it played VG+ ! This one was when his singers were actually singing words but still...I LOVE Ray Conniff! (someone DOES love him! LOL!)
