A different sort of Now Playing photo. Sony Japan has been doing a vinyl reissue campaign of Jeff Beck’s Epic catalog, starting with Rough and Ready and just finishing with Jeff. Ten albums (including the live one with Jan Hammer), but for whatever reason not including Truth and Beck-ola unless they plan to do that last for whatever odd reason.

I’ve got them all and going through them now. So far, these Japanese pressings are really enjoyable, but I also love the liner notes... which are more like essays. The one below is for Jeff Beck Group which got a spin today.

When I started getting CDs from Japan way back, they often had great booklets, but unless you or a friend knew how to read Japanese (which wasn’t the case for me) you were out of luck.

Now, you can take photos and let AI work its magic. I upload them to Google Gemini and say “Translate to English.” I take the results and paste it in a text document to read later.

Every fan should be so lucky to get a vinyl re-issue campaign of a favorite artist where you get something like this.

Dumb phone "thinks" it knows what Iam saying, haven't learned to check what I typed before hitting the send button 🙄
And yeah, that kid is very good👍
I get it. More than once I’ve gotten upset enough with my phone to say out loud, “Stop trying to help me... that’s not what I want to say!!” And then I always picture the phone like a dog that tilts its head as you speak to it... it hears the words, but doesn’t have any clue what the words mean.

Embedding pics is very flakey for me...so just attached.

Bought this off ebay and it's not great condition (get a wooooph as it goes over warp and lots of crackle).

When I was a small child my grandad used to play Hammer-Nail to me. He had a National Panasonic Music Centre and it was probably my first experience of listening deliberately to music. He was a "difficult" man and died when I was 15. So those memories are probably the only nice ones I have of him. I've never owned this in any form until now.

It's a great album.
